Harland was born in Ontario, Oregon, to Clifford and Lavone (Hall) Fox and was raised in Nyssa, Oregon, at "Fox Corner", a ranch owned by his dad and granddad. Harland went to school in Nyssa, graduating high school in 1954, and later with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from OTI in Klamath Falls, Oregon. While at OTI, Harland met the love of his life, Patsy Jean Golden. They eloped on August 12, 1956. By August 1963 their family was complete with one son and three daughters.
Harland finished his education in 1959 and moved back to Nyssa to take a job as a mechanic. In 1961 they moved to Boise to open a service station there. Later, he worked for the Dodge dealership in Boise. In 1965, a job opened for him at Boeing in Seattle. He moved his young family to Renton and stayed precisely 11 months. The climate, crime rate, and lack of outdoor recreational opportunities drove him back to Boise.
In 1976 Harland took a position with Boise City in their maintenance shop, working on police and other city vehicles. He retired in 1998.
Harland always enjoyed pretty much anything related to the outdoors that he could do with his family in southwest Idaho... camping, fishing, dirt biking, hunting, hiking, etc. This love for the outdoors led him to buy property on West Mountain in Cascade, Idaho.
Serving Jesus, and teaching boys to follow his Lord and Savior, was Harland's great passion. He served in the Royal Ranger program in his church for 40 years. He was also heavily involved in Frontier Camping Fraternity, teaching archery, snow camping, survival techniques, and black-powder rifle skills (as an NRA certified instructor). He also served on various church boards and taught Sunday School classes through the years.
Harland slipped into eternity at his home in Boise on Friday, November 3, 2023, after enjoying a full day of family and friends. He is beholding the face of Jesus today!
Harland is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patsy (Golden) Fox; son, Jim (Inis) Fox; daughters, Arla (Ron) Wilson; Teresa (John) Magnusson; and Debbie (Tim) Bridgewater; 26 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister Phyllis (Jim) Boston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Clifford and Lavone, and granddaughter Rebecca Cunningham.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Harland at Boise New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 8585 W Overland Rd in Boise on Friday, November 10th at 1 o'clock pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
