Helen T. Shambaugh, 95, of Boise, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in a local assisted living facility. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Boise, with burial to follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. The family will greet friends at a viewing on Friday, March 1, from 5-8 p.m., at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
Helen was born on January 9, 1918, in Richfield, PA, to Cloyd G. Trostle and Joyce Dietz Trostle. After graduating high school, Helen completed nurses training and business college. She married Guy Richard Shambaugh on Dec. 26, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA. Together they resided in Harrisburg, Holyoke, CO, Iliff, CO, Sterling, CO, Trinidad, CO, Billings, MT, Westminster, CO, and Boise. She was employed as a nurse and also worked as a homemaker. Helen's hobbies included music, arts, crafts, socializing and dancing. She enjoyed serving in her church, travelling, singing, serving others, bible studies-leading several bible studies over the years. She was a member in Choral Society of Harrisburg, PA. Helen helped set up and worked in the initial Head Start Program in Denver, and again in Boise. Helen was a caregiver to many, both young and older, throughout her life. She was also a very active volunteer in her church home.
Helen is survived by her son Michael Richard and Debbie Shambaugh, and their son Stanley Shambaugh; a daughter, Patricia Leigh and Leonard Engel, and their children, Korrin Leigh Engel and John Paul Engel; and a daughter, Helen Kay Morse and her son Justin Morse.
She was preceded in death by her husband Guy R. Shambaugh; her parents, Joyce and Cloyd Trostle; and brothers Edward A. Trostle, Paul A. Trostle, and Raymond E. Trostle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2920 Cassia St, Boise, ID 83705.
