Mom was born in North Baltimore, Ohio on Feb 3, 1936 in her Grandparents Bobb’s house to Louis and Margaret Lehman (August). Daughter of Wesleyan missionaries in Johannesburg South Africa. Esther spent the first few years of her life living in South Africa with her Papa, Mama and older sister Connie. Esther’s younger siblings are Judy and Steve. She loved all of her siblings.
After graduating from Pasadena City College (PCC) in 1953 she married Robert L. Dyas and adventures began including the birth of their 3 daughters, Peggy Jean, Roberta Lynn and Laurie Ann. Our Mom was a dedicated hard working mother always caring for her family, putting the needs of her three children before herself. Esther had many interesting jobs, with her final job working at HP in Boise. She was one of the first 20 employees in Boise which grew to over 5,000 employees at one time. Esther retired from HP after 20 years, and was very loved by those that worked for her as the “7970 Cable Department Supervisor”.
Esther married Lanny Wall June 15, 1980 and spent the next 36 years in a wonderful marriage and was treated like “Queen Esther”. Mom enjoyed trips to Donnelly camping and the Oregon coast where they would spend a few weeks enjoying exploration of the coast line. Marriage to Lanny included her step children, Mike Wall, Chris Thomas and TeAnna Kennedy.
All that knew Mom were blessed and amazed at her many God given talents. She could make a wonderful meal out of nothing. She made so many handmade scarfs, blankets, clothes, dish towels, rugs and the most interesting invention of making handbags out of plastic bags from stores. She made over 100 bags, giving many to people around the world. A special treasure was when she crocheted over 125 blue and white scarfs for the Special Olympic Games. Esther was well known as a very frugal and conservative woman counting her pennies and blessings! She said NEVER spend more than you make. “It doesn’t matter how much money you make, but what you do with what you make”. She many times said she was independently wealthy, not with money but with family, friends and blessings. Mom always said try to accomplish something every day.
Ida Esther Ann leaves a heritage and legacy to countless friends and family. Surviving family include her daughter’s Peggy (Ben) Scott, Roberta (Blaine) Johnston and Laurie (Brent) Watson. Siblings, Connie (Rex) Gordon, Judy (Jim) Layne, Steve (Diane) Lehman. Step children include Mike (Megan) Wall, Chris Thomas and TeAnna (Tim) Kennedy.
