Irene G. Martin, matriarch of our family, of Caldwell Idaho
passed away peacefully on April 19
th
, her 93
rd
birthday,
surrounded by family. Irene was born in Baker County Oregon and grew up in the
Baker City area. She was one of eight children born to James O. and Mabel M.
Hall. She attended and graduated from Baker High School in May 1939. She
married Leonard Edge and to this union was born three children, Lawrence, Lynda
and Raymond. Later on in life she met and married Victor A. Becvar and to this
union was born Vickie, Janet and Cheryl. She lived in Boise for many years and
later moved to Caldwell where she lived with her daughter Vickie and
granddaughter Nicole until her death. She enjoyed people and worked in public
retail and service jobs much of her life. Her many employers included OKAY
Foods, Royal Restaurant, Four B’s Restaurant, Grants Truck Stop, and her final
employment was at Buttrey foods where she worked until she retired. She loved
purple and purple irises and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Retail
Clerks Union. She enjoyed watching her many grandchildren play sports, loved
shopping, baseball and was an avid fan of Seattle Mariners. She traveled to New
York to the baseball hall of fame and for her 90
th
birthday, she
attended a Mariners game where she was honored as the northwest fan of the week
representing the state of Idaho. In her spare time she enjoyed Mary Higgins
Clark books, word search puzzles, country music, Griffey her cat and Dutch
Bros. coffee. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Glen,
Edward, Donald, Millie, Ada, Dorthy, Lorene and her son Raymond and daughter
Janet. She is survived by her son Lawrence Edge and wife Clair, daughter Lynda
Barnhart Gilbert, daughter Vickie Becvar, daughter Cheryl Harper and husband
Mark, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and
her many friends at Dutch Bros. Caldwell, Juanita Calvert and her companion
Griffey. Services will be held at 5:00 pm at Alden-Waggoner funeral chapel in
Boise on Thursday April 24
th
with viewing starting at 4:00 and refreshments
following the service. A second service will be held in Baker City Oregon at
2:00 p.m. at Coles Funeral Home on Saturday, April 26th with Burial to follow
at Haines Cemetery. In lieu of flowers suggested donations can be made to Witco
and Idaho Special Olympics in her honor.
