Irene Virginia Victory
1930 – 2011
Irene Virginia Victory was born July 28, 1930, the eldest daughter of Ruth E. and Louie LeRoy Packer, was a fourth generation Idahoan, and because of old age, went to visit the next world on July 10, 2011.
Irene was the widow of Otis Billy Victory and the proud mother of Michael Otis Victory, married to Mini Victory, Ellen Sue Victory, married to Carl Holman, and Esther Irene Victory. She had four grandchildren, Christopher Michael, married to Annie, Michelle Eva, married to Chris Blair, Joaquin, and Jonathan Otis Victory.
Her six great grandchildren, Ryan, Sierra, Jay, Alec, Robert, and Grace, called her “Big” Grandma. She is also survived by her sisters, Marjorie Reimer, Alice Culver, and Mary Watson.
Her family was always her highest priority and part of their legacy is the Packer Victory Family Heritage, a family partnership with Irene and her three children. It is an American Certified Tree Farm, Certificate #2872, and holds a Certificate of Stewardship with the Idaho Department of Lands. The family , now including the seventh generation in Idaho, works together in planting 1,000 trees per year, harvesting Christmas Trees each year (unless the snow gets to deep), and harvesting Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir timber every 25 years. This Heritage is on-going; it does not have to be started again with each generation. Irene always made it a point to tell friends and neighbors that without her family there would be many things she could not do.
Irene was educated in Idaho and was an alumni of Boise Junior College, Boise State College, and Boise State University and was a current member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
She started her business career in 1954 and was still enjoying her career in business. She was a trailblazer for women by using intelligence and hard work. Her list of characteristics included honesty, morals and ethics. She was the Woman of The Year and Past President of the American Business Women's Association, Les Bois Chapter. She was the first woman in the United States and Canada to receive the Certified Administrative Manager's Certificate and also was the Past President of the Administrative Management Society. She was the first woman to receive the National Association of Purchasing Management Certification and the first woman president of the Purchasing Management Association of Idaho. She was also a past Chairman and currently on the Board of Directors for the Boise Area Crime Stoppers and was currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Idaho Manufactured Housing Association.
She retired from the ‘corporate world’ in 1995 and continued her business career as a private investor and property owner.
Irene kept her mind active and recently attended and graduated from the “Citizens Law Academy” put on by the Idaho State Bar. She took the Stewards of The Range training class "Understanding the Constitutional Foundation of our Laws" and attended the BSU short course,
"Written in the Rocks - The Geology Of Idaho and the Pacific Northwest."
Her memberships included the Women's and Children's Alliance, the Idaho Women's Network, Basque Museum and Cultural Center, Idaho City Historical Foundation, Idaho Forest Owners Association, Inland Empire Christmas Tree Association, National Federation of Independent Business, and National Rifle Association.
In her professional activities she developed a Corporate Secretary Seminar, enlisted the assistance of three major Boise-based corporations and Boise State College as the seminar sponsor. Obtained industry and government leaders from across the United States as seminar speakers and participants. It was a very successful seminar.
Other activities included organizing a scholarship fund raiser for women students at BSU by motivating a diverse group of professional women into building and operating a food booth at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds. Total planning, organizing, staffing, equipment, and financial control were Irene's responsibility and consistently produced the most profitable fund raiser in the history of the group.
She wrote two books that can be found at the Idaho State Library, and Boise Public Library as well as other venues in Idaho. L. L. Packer Gold Mining In The Boise Basin, 1924 - 1958, and L. L. Packer Gold Miner's Daughters The Education Of, 1930 -1943.
Up until her age reached 75 years she had been in excellent health, had high energy, was self motivated and goal oriented. She liked to take the initiative and was always reliable and objective, but still was a team worker and self starter.
Her family was always Irene’s most precious possession.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave., Boise. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.
