Jack was born at Pleasant Ridge, 5 miles west of
Caldwell
,
Idaho
on
June 23, 1919
. He was the third son of Claude and Ada Pace Slade.
He lived in
Caldwell
until April 1941, at which time he joined the army and served with the 183 Field Artillery during WWII. He served in
Northern France
,
Ardennes
,
Rhineland
, and
Central Europe
.
In October 1945 he was honorably discharged.
February 4, 1946
he met Norma Shaw on a blind date and they were married in September of that year. Norma had a son, Alan, from a previous marriage. Two more sons, Kenneth and James, were born of their union.
During their marriage they lived in
Boise
, Cascade and
McCall
,
Idaho
as well as
Vancouver
,
Washington
. Jack spent most of his working life driving truck. He began his driving career hauling mail from
Caldwell
,
Idaho
to Jordan Valley, Oregon. Later he drove for Milliner Truck Lines, Asbury Transportation, and Arrow Transportation while living in
Boise
. Jack and family moved to
McCall
,
Idaho
where they owned and operated the Shell Service Station from 1960 to 1967. They moved to
Vancouver
,
Washington
in 1967 where Jack resumed his driving career with Western Propane of Portland, Oregon. A heart attack forced Jack’s retirement on
January 11, 1976
.
In 1978 Jack and Norma returned to their roots in
Boise
,
Idaho
. Jack built a work shop at their home in
Boise
where he spent many hours working with wood making toys and novelty items for his family. Jack and Norma were members of Good Sam and thoroughly enjoyed camping and traveling the Southwest during the winter. Norma was diagnosed with cancer, but they continued traveling as long as she was able. She passed away

July 2001 Jack met Doris Cloud of
Greenleaf
,
Idaho
. He and Doris were married in
Caldwell
,
Idaho
December 29, 2001
. They lived in Greenleaf during the summer, but to stay warm during the winter months they lived in Sun City, Arizona. They were married for 9 years.
For the past 18 months, Jack lived at Clearwater Springs in Vancouver, Washington.
Jack is survived by his brother, Ivan Slade, of Lacy, Washington; his 3 sons, Alan Shaw and wife Linda of Battleground, Washington; Kenneth and wife Teresa of Winlock, Washington; James and wife Josephine of Sydney, BC; 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Norma; parents, Claude and
Ada
; 3 brothers, Lynn, Virgil, and Richard (Dick).
He will be laid to rest next to his beloved Norma at Terrace Lawn in
Boise
,
Idaho.
