Jack Edmond Bonner Sr., 80, passed away September 27, 2011
in Boise.
He was born on September 9, 1931, in Pocatello, ID., and was
the only child of John and Julia Bonner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaughter Sherry
McLaughlin.
Jack is survived by his children
Jack Bonner Jr., Colin (Valerie) Bonner, Julie (Thomas) Behm, grandchildren
Nicholas and Allison Bonner and Samuel, Joseph and Benjamin Behm.

ID.
Jack was always “quick-witted.” When asked
where he graduated, Jack replied, “in the gymnasium both times” (Pocatello High
School, 1949, and Idaho State University, 1953).
Upon graduation from
Idaho
State
University
, Jack served
active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Gunnery Officer, and member of the Admiral’s
staff aboard the USS Toledo during the Korean War.
He then served in the Naval Reserves as an
Executive Officer in the Electronics Reserve Unit and in the U.S. Naval
Research Reserve Unit at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in
Idaho Falls
,
Idaho
.
Following his military service Jack married Shirley Jane
Wilson on
September 30, 1960
.
The house was instantly full as Jack became a
step-father to Shirley’s three children, John, Kathy, and Sherry.
Jack and Shirley had three of their own
children, Jack Jr., Colin and Julie.
Jack served the people of the State of
Idaho
as a Research Analyst for the
Department of Employment for 48 years.
When asked why he worked so long before retiring Jack said he really
enjoyed getting up and doing something productive every day.
Jack was very close to many of his coworkers
who became his extended family.
Several
continued their dedicated friendship until his death.
Jack enjoyed firearms and shooting competitions, winning
several trophies which he proudly displayed in his home.
He also enjoyed fishing, photography, music
and motorcycles.
He loved going to the
Island
Park
area to enjoy the outdoors.
He was also
a proud member of the Idaho State University Bengal Boosters and attended as
many of their functions as he could.
Jack served his country and the people of
Idaho
for many years.
He went to work every day and provided a roof
over his family’s head, food on the table and presents at Christmas.
He always encouraged his children’s
participation in school sports and music, and always attended their events. He
was a good example of a man and a true original.
A funeral service will be held at1:00 p.m. on Monday,
October 3, at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Burial with Navy military honors
will follow at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends
will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral chapel.
