James H. (Jim) Slee, 91, of Boise, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, in a Boise care center.
Jim was born at Buhl, Idaho, November 24, 1919, the son of Robert B. Slee and Edna N. Slee. He was raised in Buhl and graduated from Buhl High School. He entered the military service on September 16, 1940. During WWII Jim served as a First Sergeant with the 174th Combat Engineer Battalion, 96th Infantry Division. He took part in the initial landings on Lyte, P.I. and Okinawa. He was a member of occupation forces in Korea and Japan after WWII. He served as a Recruiting Sergeant for the U.S. Army from 1948-1951. Later he was assigned to the 72nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Inf. Div. in Korea during the Korean Conflict. During his military career he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and many other Service Medals. After his military service he owned and operated the Hotel Boise Garage before accepting employment with the Veterans Administration Hospital. Jim retired in 1981 after serving thirty one years of service.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and the AF & AM Lodge No. 53, Buhl, Idaho.
Survivors include one grandson, Brook J. Slee and his wife, Amy; great grandson, Jude Slee; and great granddaughter, Amalee Slee all of Boise. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, son, Robert L. Slee, one brother and two sisters.
Committal Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
