JAMES HENRY BISH

Command Sgt. Major James Henry Bish, 91, of Boise, Idaho passed away peacefully in his sleep at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1:00 a.m.

James was born in Lakeport, CA on April 16, 1920 to Hiram and Nellie Simkins Bish. He grew up in California and received his education there. On August 19, 1944 he married Virginia Munson in Ft. Lewis, WA.

He was a medic in the United States Army for 21 years and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam before retiring. James was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 65 years Virginia, his mother, Nellie McQueen, his granddaughter, Cyndi and all of his siblings.

James and Virginia traveled all over with the Army and eventually settled down in California where they raised their two beautiful daughters. James and Virginia moved to Idaho in 1985 where they have been residents ever since. James and Virginia were fun loving people who loved everyone they met and everyone loved them. They loved to take long walks and were always taking drives to explore more of the countryside. James and Virginia were the glue that held our family together. James is going to be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Survivors include his two daughters, Sharon and Kitty; his four grandchildren, Malinda, Cathy, Robert and Marci; his nine great grandchildren; and his six great-great grandchildren.

A committal service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Pastor Gordon Slyter a longtime family friend will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
