1932 – 2018

Jane Marie Hanson Benson, 85, passed away May 30, 2018 with family by her side. She was born July 20, 1932 in Logan, Utah to Ernest Leroy and Virginia Stevens Hanson. Jane grew up in Logan and after graduating from high school moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. At the University, she met Conway Barber Benson. They were married February 16, 1951 in Logan, Utah. They started their family in Salt Lake City, Utah and later moved to Spokane, Washington. Conway’s job then took them to San Ramon, California and Slidell, Louisiana. After Conway retired, Jane went to work for the Martin Marietta Manned Space program (a division of Lockheed Martin). After Jane retired, they moved to Boise, Idaho to be near their children and grandchildren. Jane took up painting as a hobby and became a talented painter and member of the Boise Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, William Stevens Hanson. She is survived by her four children, Michael Benson of Ontario, Oregon, Susan Benson, Denise (Tom) Hitchman, and Gregg (Debra Coates) Benson of Boise, Idaho, step daughter Marsha (Lyn) Read of Reno, Nevada, cousin Marion Hanson Beyer of Redding, California, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She also had long and special friendships with two of her nieces, Marilyn Jensen of Park City, Utah and Nancy Miller of South Jordan, Utah.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff of St. Luke’s Hospice and Good Samaritan of Boise for their loving care of Jane at the end of her life.

A committal service will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, June 22 nd at 10 am with a gathering to immediately follow in the Sunrise shelter at Guerber Park in Eagle, Idaho.
