Janet L. Gray

Janet L. Gray passed away on October 9, 2014 of natural causes in Boise at the age of 88.

Janet’s parents were Samuel Vivian and Maude Bly (Bonham) Long.  Samuel was born in Plymouth, Illinois, and Maude was born in LaPlata, Missouri.  Both families migrated west for opportunity to the mines in Wardner, Idaho.  They married and eventually settled in Moscow.  Janet was born on May 23, 1926.  She graduated from Moscow High School in three years, and went on to attend the University of Idaho.  She was a legacy Gamma Phi Beta sorority girl.  She met and married John G. Gray, Jr. on March 20, 1948, while he was completing his law degree.  They then moved to Boise in June 1951 where he started his accounting business and together they raised their family.  Mom was a wonderful homemaker, and part-time typist for Dad.  They were members of Sacred Heart Church, and she loved singing in the choir while under the direction of Minijean Kirk.  She had a beautiful voice and we all enjoyed singing around the piano.  She played bridge as well, but her most satisfying time was when she was outside tending her roses, and scouring the open spaces for that unique one-of-a-kind rock. Mom and Dad always had fun with their rivalry between the U of I Vandals and the Boise State Broncos (Dad also attended BJC).  She remained loyal to those Vandals, and would take any opportunity to sit down at the piano and play the Vandals’ fight song loud and clear!
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her brother, Richard Long; and her sister Emma Jo Foster.  She is survived by her three children, Chris Gray (Tanra), Katie Wood, and Mary Steiner (Sam) all living in Boise.  She has five grandchildren: Becky, John, Nick, Liz and Tom; six great-grandchildren: Cami, Troy, Kingston, Roman, Rebecca and Olivia ; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all those at Grace Assisted Living at Englefield Green for their amazing care, love and friendship.  We would also like to thank the United Hospice team in Meridian for their invaluable help and support.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 14, from 6-8 pm at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, October 15, at Morris Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Janet's name to your favorite charity.
