Jean M. Abel Records
1924 – 2011
Jean M. Abel Records of Boise, Idaho passed away of natural causes peacefully on Tuesday, June 14th at a local assisted living facility.
Jean was the third of four children born to William and Celia Randklev on March 28th, 1924 in Pekin, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in North Dakota, graduating from Pekin High School in 1942. In 1945 she began her nurses training at Grand Forks Deaconess Hospital School of nursing in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Her schooling took place under the Cadet Nurses Program during World War II. She was able to acquire many learning experiences not only in her nursing school but also in many government facilities. After graduation her first job took her to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boise, Idaho, where she met and later married her first husband, Lynn Abel. She worked in nursing in San Francisco, Astoria, Oregon, and Boise. She was later employed at Saint Alphonsus Hospital for approximately eighteen years and retired from Central District Health Department as a Public Health nurse in 1986. During her time with the health department she was the nurse for most of Boise County servicing Idaho City, Garden Valley, Crouch, and Horse Shoe Bend. Jean’s compassion for others was evident in her long career and dedication to the field of nursing. Following her retirement from the Central District Health Department in 1986, she recognized a need for affordable foot care for senior citizens. Realizing she was never ready to “retire”, she began a private business venture to provide affordable foot care for senior citizens in the privacy of their own homes. She thoroughly enjoyed her work in providing compassionate care and friendly conversation to senior citizens throughout Boise. Health issues forced her to retire from this work in 2007 before she was “ready” to retire. Jean was a member of the Idaho State Nurses Association for many years.
Jean married Lynn Abel September 28th, 1946 in Valley City, North Dakota and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Randee, and a son, Bill. Jean and Lynn owned and operated several businesses in Idaho City, Star, Boise, and Emmett. After Lynn’s death in October 1981, Jean married Edward Records on May 4th, 1984. Together they enjoyed many years of traveling and camping with the Holiday Ramblers Motor Home Club. Ed passed away in January of 1999.
Jean’s interests were doing crafts from toll painting to cross stitch, gardening, and probably the most important thing to her was doing things for and with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed attending bowling tournaments watching her two grandsons compete along with Centennial High Schools Marching Band many competions in various areas throughout Idaho and neighboring states. She would get more nervous just watching them compete then most of the performers. She was a faithful attendee at band competions for six consecutive years. Her greatest wish was that her grandsons receive an education. She had her wishes granted attending both of her grandson’s graduations at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas and Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky respectively.
In May 2010 Jean was able to attend her youngest grandson’s wedding aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean. She thoroughly enjoyed herself being with her family and so many friends. It was a struggle for her, but the entire experience was a very memorable and wonderful lasting hoo-rah.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Abel, her son, Bill Abel, her second husband, Ed Records, her brothers Percy Randklev, Rodger Randklev, and her sister, Kathleen Bakke.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Randee (Andy) Jackson, her grandson David (Cathy) Jackson, all of Boise and her grandson Michael (Jenn) Jackson of Woodland, Washington. She is also survived by one niece, Karen (Harold) Anderson of Lawton, Michigan and one nephew, Peter (Cheryl) Randklev of Winona, Minnesota, several cousins, aunts, and uncles.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Kevin Rich, Dr. David Hinchman, and Dr. James Tweeten for all the care and concern you have given Jean over the past few years.
