Born in her grandmother’s Victorian home in Malad, August 1st
1926, she was the only and very cherished daughter of Caleb O. and Ethel Davis
Nibert. She loved the history of Malad valley, sharing tales of the Welsh
people who traveled the Oregon Trail to reach Malad in the 1850s and 60s. She
came from “strong stock” as she liked to report. She was a staunch defender of
the human rights, which should be afforded all peoples, and especially the rights
of women and minorities. To this end, she worked to empower the disenfranchised
throughout her life, picketing those who denied those rights, writing countless
letters to those in charge, even keeping her representative’s phone numbers in
her private phone book. She was known to “share” her views when those around
her evidenced bigotry or an “unwillingness to just face facts.” She was a
member of Eastern Star and PEO. A life-long learner, she was involved in book
clubs, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and could usually be found
reading any newspaper or book late into the night. Jean married John “Jack”
Murray following World War II and his release from a German POW Stalag for Air
Corps Officers. Together they built a family as he worked for the Upjohn
Company as a pharmaceutical representative for over 35 years. Jack died in 1998
with PTSD-related illness resulting from his captivity. Jack and Jean lived in
Idaho Falls from 1954 to 1987 when they moved to Boise to be closer to their
children and grandchildren. Jean had very close and dear friends, many of whom
were childhood friends from Malad. Many more she met through the apartment
complex in which she lived until moving in with her daughter, son-in-law and
grandchildren. She spent the last 10 months with them, sharing many special
moments and enjoying their time together immensely. She wished to express her
appreciation to Doctor Chai and his wonderful staff, the St. Luke’s hospice
team, with whom she shared many happy hours chatting, and her numerous close
friends with whom she shared so much laughter and deep love. A celebration of
her life will be held this Saturday evening, July 5th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm
at the Cottonwood Grill located at 913 W. River Street in Boise. We invite you
to come share this time with Jean’s beloved friends and loved ones in a
celebration of this remarkable woman’s life. She regretfully leaves behind her
children, Michael Nibert Murray, Elizabeth Murray-Kirkpatrick, Laurie Murray
Adkins; her dear and most special son-in-law, Lorn Adkins; her grandchildren,
Sara Ann Adkins, John Caleb Adkins and his new bride Jennifer (6/29/14); Lisa
and David Miller and children Austin and Whitney Miller; Jodi Adkins Hiner and
daughter Baylee.
