Jerry Beard

Jerry Beard

Jerry Beard was born in Ames, Iowa and grew up in Caldwell, Idaho. He was proud of being an Eagle Scout, an early-life endeavor that prepared him for larger commitments to come. His love of swimming demanded a devotion to this sport--first on the high school swim team, then as a swim competitor on college scholarship, and in later years, as a seasoned diver working toward his master certificate. Ever the competitor, Jerry’s favorite adult sport was golf and considered himself fortunate to play on many courses around the country. On the sidelines, he rooted for BSU football and basketball teams, attending many games with family and friends.

Jerry took on challenges in his professional life as well. For 35 years he worked in office design and sales, making strategic decisions that furthered his career, including being on the ground floor of Office Environment company and eventually specializing in health care systems.

After leaving OEC, Jerry realized a dream of owning his own business. Out of his passion for wine, he took on the venture six years ago of opening Tastings, a wine bar and market in Southeast Boise. This dream was not only fulfilling in terms of business success, but gave him the opportunity to travel to the wine country of Oregon, California, Washington—sometimes with members of Tasting’s wine club. Another dream was realized when he and his wife, Linda, visited the Tuscany region of Italy in 2013. Beyond these tangible accomplishments, and to his surprise, Jerry was a catalyst for creating a community of friends through Tastings. Because of him, there is a large network of people who gather, travel and share life together, extending the legacy of his warm and welcoming spirit.
Those who know Jerry know that the Big Island of Hawai’i was also a place he called home. For the last 20 years, he and Linda have been part of a group of friends who enjoyed the beauty, the ocean and the relaxation of this magical island. Along with golfing there, another great joy was scuba diving and working on a dive boat owned by good friends. Hawai’i was his heaven on earth.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife; his daughter Lori Munk and husband, Drew; son Ryan Beard; and son Tyler Woodcook and wife Amy—as well as his four grandchildren: Cammi and Maggie Munk, Luke and Scarlett Woodcook. He also leaves behind his father, Leonard Beard, sister Becky Buehrig, and brother Dan Beard.

From all of us who knew and loved him, a hearty toast to you, Jerry--son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and a good friend to so many!!
