Jessie Roberts

Jessie Roberts, 95, of Boise, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016.

She was born Jessie Maude Little in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 25, 1920 to Charles Leon and Maude Saurage Little. Her family included her brothers and sisters, William Kimball Little, Charles Leon Little, Doris Mary Little and Harriet Catherine Whittington. Jessie attended Louisiana State University and graduated with a degree in physical education. After graduation, she taught school briefly and then joined the WAVES as WWII had begun. She met a young Navy Wildcat pilot, W.W. “Bob” Roberts, while stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas and they were married shortly thereafter. Jessie attended classes at the University of Idaho after the war.

Jessie and Bob raised three children. The family moved often as her husband was promoted to executive positions in the insurance industry and lived in Idaho, Utah, Montana, California, Illinois, Ohio and New Jersey before returning to Idaho in 1967. Bob and Jessie made many wonderful friends along the way. Although she lived all over the United States, her heart never left the South.
Her favorite pastimes were walking, sewing, gardening, camping, hiking and travel. She was one of the founding members of the Happy Hoofer walking group and was a longtime member of the downtown Boise YMCA where she participated in senior exercise classes and swam three times a week until age 89. She enjoyed doing Tai Chi at the Boise senior center for many years.

Her parents, brothers, sisters and her husband of 69 years preceded her in death. Jessie leaves her two sons, Brian Charles Roberts and Craig Colston Roberts, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Cary Wilkerson.

The family would like to express their thanks to Horizon Hospice for their care and compassion. A very special thank you goes out to her caregivers at Overland Court for their loving care during her last years and their kindness to the family.

Jessie specifically requested that there be no services, so the family will honor her wishes. Any donations in her memory may be made to the Boise Family YMCA.
