Jo-Ann Jean Steele Honey-Hardenbrook

Jo-Ann (Jo) was born March 2, 1939, in Estherville, Iowa, to Vernon Roy Steele and Lula Jean Prior Steele. Jo spent her first twelve years in Iowa before moving to Boise, Idaho, and lived with her brother, mother and step-father. Jo went to Garfield grade school the last two months of the sixth grade, running in her first track meet, placing first in the city-wide track meet with her mother rooting for her on the sidelines. Jo attended North Junior High and later graduated from Boise High in 1957.

In 1958 Jo married Donald (Don) Dawayne Honey, becoming a second Mom to three beautiful girls and later at age 28 became “Grandma Jo” and enjoying all the grands and greats to come. She married Donald O. Hardenbrook December 1, 2012.

Jo loved sports, earning two letters in volleyball, playing two years in city league basketball (one year winning the championship and one year earning the “Sportsmanship” award.) She also played regular city league softball for a few seasons while still a student. From 2003-2006 she played in coed slow-pitch games, and grudgingly ended her “career” around the ripe old age of 70. (Thanks everyone for making those such fun days!)

Jo loved the Lord Jesus, her best Friend, and enjoyed serving Him with singing in choirs, worship teams, with her husband and ladies trios. She used her singing ministry by going weekly to nursing homes for over thirty years. She also worked as an official for Bible Quiz teams for many years, once having the privilege of going to a Regional Meet in Washington State.

Jo is survived by her daughters Karen Naylor of Salem, OR, Susan Martin of Boise and Sylvia Geniece Honey of Boise. Grandchildren Tyrone Bowley, Ronnie Dawn Ericksen, Susan Humrick, Earlene Lindsay, Burlina Lucus and Megan Silvers, several Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren, one nephew John Erickson of Arkansas.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, brother Jack, and her husbands, Donald D. Honey and Donald O. Hardenbrook, and a great granddaughter Bryttney Montgomery.
