Joan Canning died Tuesday, February 12 in the home she shared with her husband for 60 years.
Joan was the eldest of three daughters of Alfred and Ellenora Oesau of Kiel Wisconsin. She graduated from the State Teachers College in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1943 and taught physical education there.
In June 1949 Joan married Stephen Canning after a long war time courtship and moved to Boise to join his large, extended Canning family. They built their home west of Boise in 1954 and have lived there to this time. Joan loved tending her garden, flowers and yard. She and Stephen operated a small Christmas tree farm on the property for many years.
Joan is survived by husband Stephen Canning, her son Steve, grandsons Phill and Nick and great grandson Aydin. She is also survived by a sister, Francis Hueneman of Virginia.
Joan was an active member of the First Presbyterian church of Boise. A Celebration of Joan's life will be held at the church, 950 W. State Street on Thursday , February 21st at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow.
