Joan
Scheuffele was born on April 12, 1940 in Nampa to John and Marie (Jessen)
Scheuffele.
She grew up primarily in
Caldwell, but traveled all over the West when her family moved often due to her
father’s job.
She graduated from Boise
High School in 1958 and from Boise Junior College with a degree in Medical
Technology.
Unfortunately, Joan didn’t
work in her elected profession because her supervisors felt she was too short
to reach patients in their beds.
Therefore, she found employment in the insurance, personnel, and
employment fields, retiring from the Department of Labor as an Employment
Consultant.
Joan
was a tiny woman. She never let that get
the best of her and she worked her hardest to overcome prejudice and prove she
could do anything. She was very smart
and a voracious reader. Her home was
filled with books and movies which she enjoyed, as well as spirited political
and newsworthy discussions. She was a
history buff, especially English royal history and enjoyed traveling. She loved animals of all types, but
especially cats. Her caregivers reported
that she was a sweet woman and a joy to be around.
Joan
never married or had children, but treasured the love and affection of her
niece and nephews. She always had a
drawer for each of them filled with books and art materials for their
enjoyment.
Joan
is survived by her sister Sandra Laws, Boise; brother Ronald Scheuffele, Boise;
her nieces Kimberly (Donald) Lewis, Boise; Laurie (Michael) Bachmann, Emmaus,
PA; nephews Michael Scheuffele, Prescott, AZ; Scott Waldemar, Kuna; Jeff
(Sundi) Waldemar, Kuna; and several great nieces and nephews and cousins.
She
was preceded in death by her mother and father, a sister, Ardis Waldemar; and
nephew Mark Scheuffele; and her 18 year old cat Tabby.
The
family wishes to thank all her caregivers who provided care for her over the
last ten years at Rosewind House and Eagle Ashley Manor.
Joan
requested no services and wished to be cremated. A private family gathering will be done later
in the spring. Memorials in Joan’s name
can be made to the Idaho Humane Society or Simply Cats.
