Heaven got a good man Tuesday June 12th when John Thomas Clarke passed away at
the age of 57 due to complications of Crohn's disease. The last few years
brought a myriad of health challenges and setbacks John's way. During
that time he underwent two brain surgeries, an open heart surgery, accompanied
by strokes and seizures. There was pain, anguish and disappointment but
these experiences were countered by friendships tested and proven to be true,
kindnesses that stretched beyond the boundaries of expectation and love that
comes from the deepest wells of the heart.
John was born September 30, 1954 in Anaconda, Montana to John Franklin and
Marian Clarke. He was the youngest of four children. The family
moved to Boise when John was young. His father died unexpectedly of a
massive coronary when John was 9 years old. Four years later his mother
married Anton Dropping and once again the family had the experience of a kind,
loving father.
In 1974, John graduated from Bishop Kelly high school and soon after began his
career in the construction field. Over the years his work took him around
the state and northwest. His final position was as an inspector for the
Idaho Department of Transportation. Ill health forced him into early
retirement.
John enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, watching BSU sports, and anything to do
with his two sons. Stephen and Michael were the pride and joy of John's
life. He treasured his moments with them and worked hard to prepare them
for the world. There could be no better day than one with his boys
enjoying the snow covered runs at Bogus Basin.
John and Deanna faced many health challenges and setbacks during their time
together. Their experiences taught them to savor every moment they had
and to resist taking anything for granted. Prerequisites to their joys
and contentment were few. All that was really required was that they be
together.
Although John came into Deanna's daughter Ashley's life after she had reached
adulthood, they enjoyed a relationship that provided her with a father figure
she had missed. A favorite memory will always be of the joy on their
faces when they shared the father- daughter dance at Ashley's wedding in 2009.
John is survived by his Wife Deanna Watson, his mother Marian Dropping, his
sons Stephen and Michael, his step daughter Ashley Morgan (Josh), his sisters
Linda Young of Coeur d'Alene, Susan Insinger (John), Colleen Barrett of Boise and
Jean (Dropping) Sandberg (Chet) of Palo Alto, CA. He also leaves behind
numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is set for 2:00 Monday June 18
th
at Southminster
Presbyterian Church at 6500 Overland Rd.
The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to a Benefit account
