Dr. John
Montoure, 86, of Meridian, passed away September 4. John was born on May 10, 1927, in Shawano,
WI. He graduated high school in 1944 and
enlisted in 1946. Stationed in Florida,
he met Dorothy Sapp and married her in 1948. In
1949, he left the Air Force and moved back to Wisconsin. He used the GI Bill to enroll at the
University of Wisconsin - Madison, graduating in 1954 with a BS (Dairy Science)
and then his Masters in 1955. He moved
his family to Pullman, WA, to work on his doctorate at WSU, graduating in
1961. He was hired by the University of
Idaho, where he became a Professor Emeritus in Food Science. In 1982, he switched to Extension Service,
traveling the state to consult with food processors on food quality and safety
issues. He retired in 1998 after 37
years of service at the U of I. He was
preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings, his wife of 48 years and his son,
John Karl. He is survived by his current
wife, Karen (Himes); his daughters: Sharon (Mike) Ennis,
Susan (Mike) Cummings, Carol Montoure, and Patty (Dave) Shank and extended
families. A memorial service will be
held in Boise, September 14, at 11 am at Heritage Bible Church.
