John Edward Fahrer, 100 years and 8 months, died on Thursday,
February 27, 2014.
John was born June
25, 1913 in New Rockford, North Dakota to John Edward Fahrer and Mae Malamphy
Fahrer.
After attending elementary and
high school in New Rockford, John went to North Dakota Teachers College,
University of Idaho, and obtained his Master's degree from Stanford.
He was married to Elsalee Mosman from 1941 -
1960 and Rula Evelyn Johnson from 1961 until her passing in 2008.
Throughout the years John has resided in Star
and Boise Idaho, Nyssa Oregon, Valley View Assisted Living, Willow Park
Assisted Living and the Idaho State Veterans Home, all in Boise. John taught school
in Star, Idaho until joining the Army where he served as a courier in Europe in
WWII.
Later he taught at Meridian High
and directed the band and coached football and baseball.
He then began a long career in the Boise
schools, including Boise High, and as principal of Whitney and Garfield
elementary schools, retiring after his time with Garfield.
John was a skilled carpenter; he remodeled
several homes, built one home and two boats.
He loved fishing anywhere, and enjoyed waterskiing and
snowmobiling.
He and Rula built a cabin
at Island Park after retiring and spent many years fishing and snowmobiling
into Yellowstone Park.
John enjoyed
traveling in their Airstream south to Arizona, Mexico and California for many
winters, and took special vacations to Germany and Ireland.
He was a member of the Elks and the Retired
Principals.
He is survived by his daughter Jane Fahrer-Winters
of Boise; son John Fahrer (Teri) of Boise; son Richard Fahrer (HongYing) of
Salem, Oregon; stepson Sam Lindley (Ricci) of Saint George, Utah;
grandchildren; Josh, Ben, Nick, Katie, John, Eric, Frank, Kim, Kelley, Tracey,
Kristen and Scott; and many loved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife Rula and
stepson Jim Lindley.
Memorials are suggested to Boise Public School Fund
or the Idaho Food Bank because he loved teaching and felt every child deserved
a good meal.
