John J. Smith
John J.
Smith went home to be with his God September 24, 2013 with his family by his
side, after fighting the greatest battle of his life with cancer.
Viewing will be held Saturday, September 28,
2013 at 11:00am with funeral services to follow at 1:00pm at Alden Waggoner
Funeral Chapel in Boise.
John was
born April 13, 1926 to James Allen and Maude Alice Smith. He was the eleventh
of thirteen children. He attended school through the 8
th
grade and
received his high school diploma while in the Army. John worked for thirty two years for
Associated Dairies as a mechanic. He was a very hard worker, and his spare time
was spent helping everyone he knew, working on engines and helping people with
any problem they may have. You could always find John out in the garage
tinkering with something.
John was an
avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and loved spending time with his family and
friends. John never knew a stranger. He was always willing to share a fishing
story, or share his life experiences on how to care for the animals he
hunted. His love of t
he
outdoors and wisdom of life will be carried forward with his children and
grandchildren.
His heart
was made of gold and he spent his life spreading the word of God in his own
very special way. John was a believer, never judged anyone, and loved everyone
with all of his heart. John spent many years as a deacon at the Calvary First
Assembly of God Church. The New Life Fellowship Church is where he has
continued his fellowship with new members. He was an adopted Dad and Grandpa to
many. He was a joker and a comedian and kept everyone laughing even into his
last days.
John is
survived by his wife Tempy Hild-Smith. John and Tempy loved to spend time
together camping, visiting family in Yuma, Arizona, and loved to visit the
Oregon Coast each September. Their time together was short but the love they
shared could be felt by all who were around them.
John has
left behind many loving family members: his children, Susan Croft and Douglas
(Peggy) Smith, and step-son, Bud (Michel) Hild; his grandchildren, Hillary
(Tom) Manning, Alyssa Smith, Alex (Danielle) Croft, Brandon (Vanessa) Hild,
Scott (Jessica) Hild, Shane (Angela) Hild, Brian Hild, John Hild, Kristi
(Kevin) Boyd; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
John was
preceded in death by his parents, twelve siblings, his wife of 56 years,
Lauretta, his son-in-law Rick Croft, and his precious grandson Luke Smith.
Viewing and
funeral services will be held Saturday, September 28, and a grave side service
will be Monday September 30, 2013 at Terrace Lawn Cemetery in Boise at 2:00pm.

The family would
