John Ray Cobley Jr.,
74, of Boise, Idaho died Wednesday, May, 16, 2012 at home of natural causes.
John was born in
Boise, Idaho on May 21, 1937, the son of John Ray Cobley Sr. and Margaret E. Anderson.
He grew up in Boise and later attended
North Idaho College in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho graduating with a degree in Police
Science. He then attended Idaho State University in Pocatello for an additional
two years.
John loved his
career in law enforcement. For over
fifteen years he served as an Ada County Deputy Sherriff, State Probation and
Parole Officer , and a District Supervisor for the State Bureau of Narcotics
and Drug Enforcement. He was a
Correctional Officer at the Idaho State Penitentiary, and also served as a
State Juvenile Corrections officer. John
spent thirteen years with Hewlett Packard as a Security Supervisor and in other
supervisory roles. In 2005 he began his
work in the Valley View Retirement Community in Security until his passing.
John served in the
Idaho National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves, from which he was honorably
discharged with the rank of Captain. He
served in an armored unit and in the Seventh Special Forces.
John had a passion
for horses and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
On October 22, 2009
he married Angelica Velasco at the Collister Community Church, in Boise.
He is survived by
his wife, Angelica Velasco Cobley, his children, Susan Cobley, Beverly Cobley,
John Cobley III, and Jami Cobley; his step-children, Jason Grooms, Jennifer
Anderson, Veronica Sandoval, Daniev Clever, Kindrit Aceves and Maricela Aceves;
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Lorraine
Woodyga, James Cobley, and Jerry Cobley and his wife, Sue. He was preceded in death by his parents and one
child, Baby Cobley.
A funeral service
will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral
Chapel, with Pastor Corbett Lynn of Collister Community Church
officiating. There will be a viewing and
his family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of
service.
