Jon Charles Thomas was born December 29
th
, 1943 in
Spokane, Washington to Chester and Eulah Thomas. Jon and his older brother
Philip A. Thomas spent their high school years in Southern Idaho. Jon attended
Roosevelt Middle School and East Junior High before moving to Cambridge, Idaho.
After a brief stay, his family moved to Nampa where he attended and graduated
from Nampa High School.
Jon enlisted in the United States Army after graduation and
trained as a photo lab technician. He served in Germany for a year and a half
before deploying to Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, Jon was awarded the Army
Accommodation Medal for meritorious service. He also became a classified
carrier and clerk typist which called him to travel throughout South Vietnam on
high risk details. Jon completed his active duty service in 1970 and returned
home to Nampa to help his parents with their restaurant, Paul’s Pizza.
Jon worked hard in many different venues. He was employed by
Stein Distributing, Coca Cola, and Jewel Tea. He worked as a salesman for
Champion Home Builders in Weiser, Idaho. Jon was also a salesman for Allen
Homes in Olympia, Washington. He went on from there to work for Kaufman and
Broad Homes as a service manager. Jon worked for Transit Homes and as a route
builder Schwann’s Ice Cream. Jon spent the last twenty years of his life
working for Nashua Homes of Idaho as a parts and service manager. It was during
this time that Jon wrote a book for mobile home owners called “Let’s Just Fix
It”. He greatly enjoyed his job with Nashua and was proud of his book and the
response it received.
Jon was married four times in the course of his life. His
first marriage was to Glenda J. Fox. They had two children, Michelle and
Michael. His second marriage was to Kathleen Charlesworth. In 1978 Jon married
Joyce Thomas and had one child, Jason Thomas of Boise. After their divorce, Jon
met and married his loving wife Deanna. They were happily married for 22
years.
In 1991, Jon placed his faith in Jesus Christ and accepted
Him as his Lord and Savior. Jon and Deanna attended Whitney Baptist Church in
Boise for the majority of their marriage and partnered in many service
opportunities. Jon was a great blessing to the church. His kindness and sense
of humor endeared him to many and greatly encourage those around him. Jon
affectionately became known to the church children as the “donut man.” He and
Deanna were deeply impacted by the opportunity to travel to Israel together and
to walk where Jesus walked.
Jon loved to travel and camp, and enjoyed cooking, eating, photography, and sewing.
Jon is survived by his wife Deanna, his children Michelle,
Michael, Jason, Laura, John Michael, and James, five grandchildren, and his
cousin Karen Hunt.
The family wants give special thanks to the Veterans Medical
Center and all of the doctors, nurses, and staff for their good care.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Whitney
Baptist Church. A committal service with military honors will be
held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
