Joseph F. Ston

Joseph F. Ston

Joseph F. Ston was born on January 4, 1940, to Joseph and Frances (Kalvoda) Ston in Ontario, Oregon, and died peacefully in his home in Nampa on Sunday, July 17, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His parents moved to Willowcreek, Oregon, in 1937 to homestead sagebrush land and create a new life following years of drought in North Dakota. Joe graduated as a proud Vale Viking in 1957, attended Eastern Oregon State College and graduated from the University of Oregon. Throughout his life, Joe had a variety of employment positions in Oregon, California, and Idaho in the fields of sales and construction. In 1993, he moved to the Boise area and began investing in rental properties. He was known for his work ethic and his pride in a job well done. He excelled in creative financing for clients who longed to own their own homes. One of his greatest joys was fixing anything that was broken. He "retired" in 2005, but he never stopped working. Joe loved the outdoors, golfing, fishing, fast cars, coaching baseball and spending time with family and friends. Some of his fondest memories were of fishing trips to Alaska with his nephew. Many will remember his quick wit, his pranks, and his love of a "good" joke. Joe's final contribution to the betterment of mankind is demonstrated by the donation of his body to science.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Helen F. Churchill (Boise) and Paula Mattras (Fort Myers, Florida), faithful companion Barbara Ballance, daughter Michelle Herron (Sisters, Oregon), daughter Jodie Hunt, Sons Rodney and Karl Ston (Meridian), 12 grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Vale, Oregon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, followed by a reception in the parish hall. A celebration of life will be held at his home, 35 S. Rolling Green Street, Nampa, ID 83687 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to US Bank in the name of Joseph Ston. All contributions will benefit the Ston Memorial Soccer Field at Mountain View High School in Meridian.
