Joseph L. Barrett, Sr.,
68, of Nampa, Idaho, died Friday, April 24, 2015 in a Nampa hospital of a long
illness, surrounded by family
Joe was born on May 21,
1946 in San Francisco, CA. He grew up in
the Bay area, graduating from Oakland High School in 1964. During the Vietnam War, he served in the US
Army where he was stationed in Germany.
Joe married Marlene Mort, after a 6 month courtship, on April 26, 1969
in Newark, CA.
Joe worked for the Pony
Express Courier Corporation for 23 years, earning a number of awards for
service & quality. When he retired
from Pony, he was the Regional Manager over the entire state of Idaho. Joe was an avid fisherman, camper &
robust music lover. He loved Elvis & oldies country music, singing along
around the campfire, with his family howling & laughing in the
background. He also enjoyed remote
control cars and planes, and was extremely talented in woodworking, making many
things for family, especially his grandchildren. Joe was a motorcycle enthusiast, riding for a
great many years, oftentimes going on long road trips with friends &
family, always with Marlene riding along on the back of his bike.
Joe was a fierce family
man. His survivors include his loving
wife, Marlene, Nampa; daughter, Michelle
Barrett, Nampa; son, Joseph Barrett, Jr.
and his wife, Jenny, Nampa; grandson,
Caleb Barrett, Nampa; granddaughter, Averi Barrett, Nampa; brother-in-law &
sister-in-law, Dwain and Mary Briener, Meridian; and brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Gary
and JoAnne Mort, Harrisonville, MO. He
also leaves his adoring doggie-children & doggie-grandchildren: Katie Sue
& Sadie Sue; and granddogs, Lexi, Kinzie, Tango & Sage; & the
cocketiel, JoJo. He was preceded in
death by his mother, Patsy Amlong; sister, LuAnn Smith, and father-in-law, Gail
Mort. He was also preceeded in death by
the family's many beloved pets, Cindy, Arco, Sparky, Carly, Casey, Muffet, Amy,
Jessi, Jazzmen, Baylee, Abu & Jayde.
Funeral services will be
held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel at 11:00
a.m. A
private family committal service wi
ll be held
at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
