Juanita Ellis, 91 of Boise went home to be with her Lord and
Savior Saturday, February 11, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and
great grandchildren.
Juanita was born in Meridian on April 19, 1920 to Lester and
Clara Lewis. She was one of ten
children. She was raised on an 80 acre farm near Meridian and attended Meridian
schools. She learned the value of hard
work at an early age. Hard work followed her all her life and she loved it.
Juanita knew who Bert was at the age of 14. She attended local dances with her
brothers. She found out that Bert could
waltz better than anyone she had ever danced with but, she wouldn’t let him
take her home. She came with her brothers and she left with her brothers. When she was 17, Bert ask her to marry him
and she said “yes.” They were married
March 27, 1938. They started a family and had two sons, Dwayne & Bob and a
daughter Sandra.
They lived on several farms throughout Boise Valley, milked
cows, raised corn, wheat and hay. They both worked extremely hard but when it
was play time the children were always included. The children always worked hard as well
helping out with whatever as Juanita and Bert set the example.
The fun of fall to summer was riding horses, hunting (shot
her moose at age 62), swimming and movies, but always as a family. We did all things as a family and it was
passed on down over many years.
Although Juanita worked hard on the farm, she also worked
downtown at C.C. Andersons. At age 19
she went to work for Carrols selling woman’s ready to wear. From there she worked at the Mode for 15
years in women’s clothing. Her cliental
was Boise’s best and her sales were amazing, so she opened her own dress shop
in the family home out in the country on Arney Lane. The New York dress market and the Los Angeles
dress markets recognized Juanita as the top sales lady in the Northwest.
In 1980 she joined Mary Kay Cosmetics. She combined the ready to wear with the skin
care world and her clients loved it. In Mary Kay she became a Sales Director in
10 ½ months and qualified for her first pink car. There were many pink Cadillac’s to
follow. She was number one in Sales for
16 years; then Bert retired to help her in her business. He helped with labeling and drove her
everywhere in the pink Cadillac. Again,
the love and devotion of a love that endured for 67 years. Juanita retired at age 87.
During the week Juanita’s favorite day was Sunday. She loved going to church and being there at
8:20AM to listen to the choir practice before church started. She loved gospel music and loved to watch the
Gaither Gospel Hour. She told Jackson
her pastor, “If the Lord takes me home, I’ll be with Bert, if I stay I have my
kids, so I get the best no matter what.”
As Juanita’s family we know she had courage for the great
sorrows in life, and patients for the small ones. She accomplished all of her
daily tasks, and then went to sleep in peace – she knew God was awake. We are so blessed as a family to have her
legacy of unconditional love. What a
treasure to be left with. We know she
has joined Dad and is in heaven, where he has been waiting for almost 8
years. Theirs was a love story like no
other. Mom and Grandma, we love you and
will miss you beyond words.
