Julian D. Hagood, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday,
December 3, 2011.
On Wednesday, December 7, 2011 a committal service with
military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Idaho State Veterans
Cemetery, Boise. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Church
of the Nazarene, 8585 W. Overland Road, Boise.
Julian was born on January 5, 1932 in Norman, Oklahoma to
Alvus and Edith Hagood. He moved in1937
as a young boy with his family of eight from Oklahoma to Ontario, Oregon to
escape the Dust Bowl and the hardscrabble life of tenant farmers. The family purchased undeveloped sage brush
property as part of the Owyhee Irrigation Project on the Oregon Slope. He grew up accustomed to hard work and
personal responsibility. It was there
that he decided to take advantage of educational opportunities, graduating from
Ontario High School in 1950, and eventually charting a professional career in
education.
Julian and Naomi (Volk) met at Northwest Nazarene College and
were married on December 8, 1953. He
served in the Idaho National Guard and the US Army and is a veteran of the
Korean War. After graduating from
Northwest Nazarene College in 1958, he taught biology at Nampa High School and
Borah High School in Boise. While
teaching, he completed a Master of Natural Sciences from the University of
Idaho. Following his stint in the
classroom he held administrative positions at Fairmont Junior High School and
Capital High School, Boise. As an
educator, Julian earned the respect of his peers and students creating
life-long friendships.
He retired in1988 and dedicated his time to family, friends
and serving others. He was always
available for a friend in need; a neighbor in distress; a son's need for
advice; or a grandchild’s activity. He
will be remembered as a man of genuine humility; high expectations; a steadfast
moral compass; and a work ethic crafted by his humble youth and perfected by
his determination. His strength, grace
and gentleness reflect his life decision to follow Jesus Christ.
Julian is survived by his wife, Naomi; their Sons Mike
(Jackie), Gary (Susan) and Greg (Tina); his grandchildren Tiffany, Kara, Jacob,
Taylor, Drake, Owen, Jade, Evan and Tyson; a great granddaughter Reagan; his
brother Richard and three sisters, Betty Cable, Doris Parsons and Marie
Barker. He was preceded in death by his
parents; two brothers and a grandson, Ryan.
