K. Burnell Bergquist of Boise completed the final chapter of his
life January 30, 2012 at Paramount Parks, Eagle ID. Dad will now make the final journey to the
arms of the Lord and to be with his loved ones that have already made the
journey.
Burnie was born in Rockford, Illinois to loving parents Frithiof
and Lorena (Gabel) Bergquist on October 5, 1929. He was their second son, Stanley being the
first and almost 5 years older than Burnell.
After attending elementary and high school in Rockford dad
graduated from the University of Illinois in 1951 with a B.A. in
agriculture. He was truly a farmer at
heart.
Burnell married the love of his life, June Blade, on October 20,
1950 in Urbana, Illinois. They were
married for 54 wonderful adventurous years before June’s passing in 2005.
While in College dad was in the ROTC and in 1952 went to active
status with the U.S. Army spending his tour at Fort Lee, Virginia. He was honorably discharged as a 1
st
Lt. in 1954.
Burnie and June’s oldest son was born in Rockford and their
second son was born at Fort Lee. Two
daughters were born in Boise.
In 1955 Burnell, June and their sons moved from Rockford to
Meridian Idaho where they had bought a farm.
In 1961 Burnie started employment with the Idaho Department of
Employment in Boise. Dad continued to
farm as well until 1968 when they sold the farm and moved to Coeur D’Alene,
Idaho where he was the manager of the local DOE office.
In 1971 the family moved back to Boise where Burnell continued
employment with DOE. He retired as area
Manager in 1985 after 25 years with the DOE.
Burnell was a long time member of the Trinity Evangelical Free
Church. He also belonged to several
civic, professional and fraternal organizations throughout the years.
Dad was an adventurous man who loved to travel. He and Junie took many trips to various
locations. In their later years they
loved to load up their motor home with grandchildren or friends and hit the
road. Throw in an occasional river
rafting trip, dune buggy adventure or motorcycle ride and you have a good idea
of just how adventurous he was.
Burnell was a man of honor and integrity. He was a hard worker all of his life. He was a curious soul who had a lot of
questions and listened intently to the answers because he wanted to know
everything about everything.
Burnell will be leaving behind his 2 sons, Greg (Barbara) of St
Maries, Idaho and Jeff of Boise as well as daughter, Debra of Eagle Idaho. Grandchildren, Lee, Jeremy, Jasen, McKenzie,
Lacey, Carissa, Emily and Blade will miss him immensely as will great grandson,
Carsen. Other family spread throughout
the States will miss him as well.
His wife, June, his parents, Frithiof and Lorena, his daughter,
Lori, son-in-law, Don and his brother, Dr Stanley Bergquist await him with open
arms.
Burnie’s family would like to thank the staff at Paramount Parks
and Hospice for the warm and compassionate care that was given to Dad. A special thank you as well to his church
family at Trinity Evangelical Free Church.
A very special thank you to dear friends, Sandy, Dwaine and Joan. Your love and understanding meant so much to Dad
and to the family.
