Katherine M. Thompson, 90, of Boise passed away Thursday,
April 3, 2014.
She was born August 8,
1923 to Susie and Henry Mende in Caldwell, Idaho.
“Katy” graduated from Star High School in
1941, where she enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. High school reunions
were a highlight of her summers through 2012.
Upon graduation, she worked at McClure’s Bakery in Caldwell where she
met the love of her life, Doug.
They
were married April 24, 1943, residing in Caldwell and Nampa their first years
of marriage and moving to Boise in 1952.
Mom was a
loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Family and friends were so important to her;
she enjoyed participating in our lives throughout the years.
She was our best cheerleader!
As a devoted homemaker she loved hosting
family gatherings.
And all things were
made better with ice cream!
She and Doug traveled extensively in the U.S.
and Europe visiting their children and grandchildren.
She leaves a legacy of love and faith in
Jesus Christ to her family, as well as her church family at Cornerstone.
As her children were growing up she was
active in their school activities--PTA, Girl Scouts, Cub/Boy Scouts, music and
sports.
She was an avid sports fan, even
traveling to Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl at age 83.

A
fter more than 50 years she retired from her bowling
league at Westy’s.
She was a member and
held many offices in the Alexis Club, Woman’s Century Club, and General
Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Her love of
country and patriotic spirit led her to volunteer for hundreds of hours at the
VA Hospital.
Katherine is
preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Eugene Mende, and her husband,
Doug.
She is survived by her
children:
daughters Teresa (Rick) Eason
of Boise,
Janet (Rick)Kopke of Oklahoma
City, son Dan(Darlene) Thompson of Meridian;
Grandchildren:
Doug(Jamie)
Eason,
Sean Eason, Tony Eason all of
Boise, Josh (Jesee)Thompson of Boise, Lora (Johnathan)Atchison of Meridian,
Andrew(Sarah) Kopke of Beirut, Lebanon, Ryan(Jordan) Kopke of North Carolina,
Katie(Todd) Heitmann of Oklahoma City.
Great grandchildren: Dylan
and
Cami Eason, Marshall Eason, Emma, Logan, Landon Eason, Cayden Eason, Tucker and
Taylor Thompson,
Jordan and Payton Atchison,
and Ellie Kopke, and a cousin, Barbara Dugger of Boise.
We are so
thankful to our friends at
Ashley Manor
Orchard and Auburn Crest Hospice for their care and compassion the past months.
A
Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM
Tuesday, April 8, at Cornerstone
Community Church,
1025 South
Curtis Road in Boise.
A private family
graveside service will precede the Celebration.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VA
or a charity of your choice in Katherine’s name.
