Ken Pedde, who passed away October 19th, was not a man of many words, but he was a storyteller. He used language and dramatic pauses to entertain boy scouts around the campfire. He used words to try bringing people to a consensus around salmon and water rights. He would entertain his kids on road trips and hikes with stories about “Pierre Zimmerman” and “leaverites.”
Ken also liked to work with his hands. Tinkering with his old Bronco. Working on model trains. Building wooden kayaks. Making handles for knives. Ken was happiest when he could create and do around the house.
Ken was also a traveler. Whether living in Colorado, Texas, Idaho, Montana, or Washington DC, Ken was always game to go see what was to be seen.
Ken grew up in Michigan, the second oldest of 5, and graduated from Michigan Tech. The US Army then took him to Germany for a tour of duty. Then the Bureau of Reclamation moved Ken and his family all over the country, allowing him to work for the government for a total of 40 years.
Ken’s family includes his wife of 55 years, Susan, his three children, his four grandchildren, and his dog. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mountain West Boy Scout Council, 8901 W. Franklin, Boise, Idaho 83709. His funeral will be on Thursday, November 10th at 11 am at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
