Kenneth was born January 9,
1924 at Boise, Idaho to his parents Martin A. and Albertina Nelson. He attended Garfield Elementary, and
graduated from Boise High School. He went to
San Diego
,
California
and worked in the aircraft industry. He had a desire to serve his country and joined
the United States Navy in 1942; serving through 1946. Kenneth was a motor machinist, 1
st
class, and trained at internal combustion schools in
Ames
,
Iowa
and Weiser,
Idaho
.
He was stationed at various bases:
Farragut
Idaho
,
Russell
Islands
,
Ellis
Island
, Esperanto Santiago and small Pacific bases.
Kenny loved his country very
much, and while stationed in the
Pacific
Islands
, felt honored to meet Paul
Tibbets and the crew from the Enola Gay who had the challenging task of the
mission to
Japan
.
After an honorable discharge
Kenneth returned to
Boise
to attend
Boise
Junior
College
. Later he was employed by John Deere and
Babbitt Construction Company. In 1948, he met and married Della Pearson. They
had three beautiful children: Michael, Suzanne, and Sheri.
Kenneth, with his father and
brother owned and operated M.A. Nelson and Sons Construction in
Boise
. They specialized in
residential construction. Kenneth was a
master craftsman in his trade and later started his own company which he
operated until his retirement.
Kenneth was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many weekends in the mountains or
desert camping, fishing and hunting with friends and family. He appreciated the beauty of our great state.
After retirement, Ken and
Della moved to McCall where they enjoyed the mountains and made many
friends. Ken loved to read, and was an
articulate conversationalist who enjoyed discussing and sharing thoughts and
ideas. He had a magical way with words.
The Nelsons left McCall and returned
to
Boise
in
1990.
Ken is survived by his loving
wife Della, daughter Suzanne, grandsons Adam and Kevin Nelson, 4 great
grandchildren, and many other
caring relatives.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, his son Michael, his daughter Sheri, and his brother Martin.

A committal service with
military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery, 10101
N,. Horseshoe Bend Rd, Boise.
