Lanis J. Lyons, 88, of Boise, died on February 7, 2023, in a local hospital surrounded by loved ones. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held later that day at 4:00 pm.
Lanis was born on June 3, 1934, in Huston, Idaho to Oswald Lyons and Sadie (Collier) Lyons. Lanis joined the army to see the world, but he only saw Fort Lewis, Washington. While in the Army he obtained his GED. Lanis married Maralyn Eggler in Boise, ID in 1962. They later divorced. Lanis married Laura J. Bowers on November 3, 1981 in Houston, Texas. Lanis worked several different jobs during his life, his last working ten years with the City of Santa Clara Parks and Rec. where he retired. Lanis and Laura lived together in Texas, Idaho, and California. After his marriage to Laura is when Lanis got to see the world. They traveled to five different continents, traveling to China and seeing the Great Wall, Australia, London, Thailand and Greece. They also went on eighteen different cruises to different countries. After, Lanis told Laura he was finished with cruises, but Laura planned another, so he went. Besides traveling, Lanis enjoyed playing cards and gambling in Reno at the Sands.
Lanis is survived by his brother Gary Lyons (Leah) of Boise; daughter,
Darla Callaway of Boise; grandsons, Chasen Callaway (Krista) of Boise,
Devon Callaway (Lisa) of Boise; stepson Michael Gabriel of San Francisco; granddaughter, April Gabriel of San Francisco; great grandsons, Beckham Callaway and Drimic Callaway both of Boise; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laura; his parents; his grandparents; brothers, Melvin Lyons, Ival Lyons; sisters, Sharon Burril, Ila Spitzler and Mickey Windes.
