Leona H. Loux, 86, of Boise, passed away on
Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 in a local care center. A memorial service will be
held on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel,
Boise. A private family inurnment will take place in the spring at the Idaho
State Veterans Cemetery, Boise.
Leona was born on February 22, 1925, in Wilkes
Barre, PA, to Martin J. Hart and Mary Davidson Hart. Her parents had eight
children, seven girls and one boy. Leona was the youngest. Her mother died when
Leona was just two months old, so she was raised by her father and her older
sisters. After finishing high school, Leona went on to business college in
Philadelphia where she earned a certificate in bookkeeping. She met Harvey W.
Loux in Philadelphia and they were married there on Dec. 15, 1945. They lived
in Philadelphia for a time and then moved to California in 1948, before moving
to Idaho in 1950 where they joined friends they had known while living in
Philadelphia.
Leona worked as the financial manager for 37 years
at the Idaho Wheat Commission. Prior to that she worked for Randolph Realty in
Boise as a bookkeeper and for the Singer Sewing Machine Company, where she used
her talents as an excellent seamstress as a demonstrator and instructor. After
her retirement from the Idaho Wheat Commission, Leona and Harvey operated a
greenhouse business near Kuna, ID. She enjoyed growing plants from seeds and
cuttings, and putting together hanging flower baskets. She had a great “green
thumb.” In addition to gardening, other hobbies included hiking, especially in
the Sawtooth Moutains and trails around Lowman. Leona also enjoyed quilting,
baking, ceramics, and making greeting cards for her family and friends on her
computer. One of Leona’s favorite pastimes was shopping for “good deals,” and
she always enjoyed coming home with a great bargain.
Leona is survived by her husband, Harvey W. Loux of
Boise; daughter, Judy Phelps (Rod) of Boise; sons, Ron Loux (Carol) of Lowman,
and Harvey Loux Jr. of Nevada; granddaughter, Jennifer Williamson (Sheldon) of
Kennewick, WA; grandson, Jake Loux (Cindy) of Boise; great-grandchildren,
Gideon and Gabriel Williamson, and Trevor Loux; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erica
Loux.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Treasure
Valley Hospice for all their care and concern for Leona over the past three
years and especially to Erma Atkinson and family for helping with the
transportation of Harvey. Also a special thanks to the care givers at Spring
Creek Manor, Meridian, for the loving care and kindness given to Leona.
