Leona Chase Reininger

Leona D. Chase Reininger was born September 10, l926 to Harold B. and Daisy L. Chase, Sr. of Eagle, Idaho. Died August 5, 2024.

She attended school at Eagle, graduated from 8th grade there and also graduated from Eagle High School in l944. She attended Link’s School of Business and then worked for Scherer and Moore, Scherer, Moore and Rife and gradually went back to Peter Scherer Accounting Firm. She worked for them for 30 years before venturing out on her own in accounting for l4 years. She was a licensed public accountant #51 in the State of Idaho. 

In the early 60’s she was a member of the Alpha Chapter of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in Boise.

Leona was married to Jerome A. Reininger on April 27, l946 at Saint John’s Cathedral in Boise, Idaho. They made their first home in Boise. Then for a short time, while Jerome worked for W. O. Bedal, they lived in Crouch, Idaho. They moved back to Boise, then in l980 they moved to Eagle, in 1990 they moved to their present home.

She was interested in music, playing piano, accordion, and saxophone. She played with Alice Hartley in a dance band for many years known as the Merry Music Makers.

Her favorite daughter Christine Ann was born on March 10, l951 and a favorite son Jerome A., Jr. (Jerry) born on April 4, l953.

Leona and Jerome made many trips to the Hawaiian Islands which they truly enjoyed. After retiring they traveled a lot to the Oregon coast, Texas, California, Canada, and on numerous cruises. In December 2002 they took their entire family and went to Maui for a two week vacation. Later in June of 2003, they took their family to attend the Reininger Family Reunion in New Braunfels, Texas. They traveled twice to Ireland with their priest from Arizona in 2002 and 2007.

Leona and her husband both retired in l992 and they enjoyed life to its fullest. In l994 they ventured to Arizona and liked it so well they bought a home there. They traveled to Mesa, Arizona every fall returning to Idaho in the spring, and were known as one of those northern Snow Birds. They were very active at their Arizona home, attending water aerobics, floor aerobics, walking at least 4 miles a day seven days a week, cards, bicycling, etc.

They spent most of their time in McCall at their summer home, which was enjoyed by the entire family. One of her hobbies was watching the deer, foxes, squirrels and hummingbirds in McCall. She spent many hours picking huckleberries. Leona also loved the lake and boating, spending much time there enjoying the grandkids and family. She was a member of the Lady of Lake in McCall and St. Mary’s Church in Boise, Idaho.

After being married for 71 years, Jerome died on May 15, 2017 in Gilbert, Arizona. She is survived by one daughter Christine and her husband Dan Caron of Antioch, California, one son Jerome A. Reininger, Jr. (Jerry) and his wife Joni of Eagle. Grandchildren include Nicholas Caron, Kristl Caron and her husband Chris McGinnis, Jerome A Reininger III, Austin Welsh and his fiancé Gabby Dewaele. A great granddaughter, Hailey Caron and her fiancé Sean Tyler-Roy Burket and her great-great grandson Tyler Patrick Burket of Antioch, California. 

Preceded in death were her parents, Harold and Daisy Chase and one brother Harold B. (Bud) Chase, Jr.

At her request there will be a graveside service for the family.
