Lois Edna (Slauter) Birch,
90, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2018 at her home in Meridian with family
members by her side. Lois was born to Alice Pearl Slauter on August 4, 1927
near Lamoni, Iowa. She lived in the area for most of her childhood with her
mother, sister, and grandparents. Some of her fondest childhood memories were
playing cards with her grandpa and being surrounded by a large family of aunts,
uncles, and cousins.
Lois graduated from
Shenandoah High School in 1945. After graduation, she went to St. Louis to work
in a defense plant to support the World War Il effort. After a year, she
returned to Shenandoah to work in the Henry Fields Seed Company. Lois's next
move was to Star, Idaho where she met and married the love of her life, Carl (Bill)
Birch. Lois and Bill farmed in the Star area until 2002. They celebrated 69
years of marriage before Bill's death in 2016.
Lois was a devoted and
loving mother to their four children, Robert (Bob), Sharon, Shirley, and
Janice. She doted on and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as
only a grandma can.
Lois was preceded in death
by her husband Bill, sister Wanda, brother-in-law Gene, and sister-in-law Rosy.
Lois is survived by her children; Robert (Darla)
Birch, Sharon (Mike) Lamm, Shirley (Bill) Carroll, Janice (Terry) Drye, 9
grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank
Eunice and the caregivers with ABC Translation & Home Care for Lois's
exceptional in-home care and Irene with Doctors Hospice for her compassionate
