Murphy and her older brother James Thrailkill.
Lois was born to William and Ethel Thrailkill January 9
,
1925
in Boise, Idaho. She grew up in Boise
'
s
North and East End and attended schools there and graduated from Boise High
School in 1942. After high school
,
and
during World War II, she trained with the nurse's corps. and became a nurse
'
s
a
i
de and candy striper to help with the war effort.
Shortly after World War II, Lois started working at Sears
Roebuck and Co
.
in the accounting department
.
While
working at Sears, she met her husband, Raymond Murphy. On August 27
,
1950,
Ray and Lois were married at St
.
John
'
s
Cathedral in Boise
,
Idaho in a beautiful ceremony shared with family and friends
.
For the first nine years of m
a
rriage
,
Ra
y
and
Lois lived in Boise and Spokane
,
Washington. After settling
back into the Boise area
,
their first son William blessed the couple
'
s
life. Three
y
ears later
,
their second son
,
Robert
,
united
their family. Two years later
,
their family was complete
w
ith
the addition of their daughter Kathleen. Ray and Lois raised their family in
Boise; watching their children grow up
,
completing
high school and going on to live lives of their own.
Lois was a very loving mother and
v
er
y
devoted
to her children
'
s lives
,
up until her death
.
She
continued her love and utter devotion to her si
x
grand
-
daughters
,
whom
carried this love to their twelve great-grandchildren.
Not only was Lois devoted to he
r
immediate
famil
y,
she was adoring and thoughtful to her extended family and
friends. Whomever she met, she touched their lives in some way with her bubbly
attitude and in
f
ectious laugh. Smiles and warm hearts greeted Lois wherever she
ventured in life
.
She looked after ailing family members and often had monthly
luncheons with old classmates up until she was unable to do so
.
Lois was an active member of the Boise Catholic communit
y
.
When she was married
,
she attended St
.
Mar
y'
s
Catholic Church; St
.
Mark's Catholic Church
;
and
Holy Apostles until she was physically unable to a
t
tend
mass. Even though she physically could not be there
,
in
sprit she was.
Throughout life, Lois was an avid sports lover
.
From
an early age, she played any and all sports she could. Her love carried on in
her adult years when she joined local bowling leagues around the Boise area and
participated for years
.
When she could no longer take part in sports, she became a
spectator, with her true love being Boise State Football
.
She
would listen to the announcers on AM radio while watching the telecasts on her
television, making remarks about the referees' calls and the plays
.
Lois is survived by her three children, William, Robert, and
Kathleen; six granddaughters; twelve great-grandchildren; eleven nephews and
six nieces.
The family would like to thank Michelle from St. Luke's CCU for
her special care of Lois.
