Lonnie Duke Stines

Lonnie Duke Stines was born in Wataga County, North Carolina on April 30, 1932. He passed away peacefully on May 25, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, Elaine and his children Jan, Linda, Craig and Lonna. He is survived by his sisters, Birdie Mae and Betty as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that cherished every minute with him.
Lonnie and Elaine retired to the Garden Valley area 20 years ago after living in Boise since 1953 when he retired from the Air Force and they married. Lonnie owned a Mobile and then Chevron Service station on the corner of Orchard and Overland Road for many years before moving the station to his home on Nash Street.
Lonnie was the first to lend a helping hand to any anyone and everyone, and truly never met a soul who didn’t become a lifelong friend both to those in Boise, Garden Valley and the many people he met while stock car racing in Meridian, snowmobiling or square dancing. A kinder, gentler or giving person was never placed on this earth and he will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Lonnie.
A memorial service will be held at Garden Valley Community Church on Middlefork Road Wednesday, June 12 at 11 a.m luncheon will follow. As Lonnie would have wished, please donate to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
