Loren Paul Grout Sr.

Loren Paul Grout Sr. (88) joined his beloved wife Jackie Lee in heaven on July 18,2024. Loren died at home in Boise, Idaho with the support of his five children. He was born on May 29,1936 in Payette, Idaho. His parents were Kenneth Grout and Kathryn Ausman Grout. He graduated from Payette High School in 1955. Loren married his high school sweetheart Jackie Lee Alsop in Payette, Idaho on October 26, 1956. Loren joined the Air National Guard in April 1954 and became full-time in 1958 in Gowen Field. The family moved to Boise at that time. He was a supply technician and retired in October 1991 from federal duty as Chief Master Sergeant. He retired from the reserve in 1996. Loren was very dedicated to his job and enjoyed working with others. He loved many hobbies including fishing, hunting, hiking, softball, playing cards, and board games. Loren coached basketball at Sacred Heart from 1964 -1972, and was part of starting the Hallisey state basketball tournament. Loren coached baseball at St Mark’s in 1982. Loren participated in many fun runs and completed Race to Robie Creek 17 times where he place second several times in his age group.

Loren was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church and attended several bible studies. He played softball on the Sacred Heart team for many years. Loren was also a blood donor at the Red Cross. He donated time to the Museum at Gown Field. 

 Loren was survived by children Linda Hall and husband Leon of Clarkston, Washington and McCall, Idaho; Gay Winkler and Bryan of Boise, Idaho; Lora Grout of Lewiston, Idaho; Loren Grout Jr. of Meridian, Idaho; and Lonny Grout of Caldwell. He leaves 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wife Jackie, baby daughter April, two grandsons David and Elliott, his parents, brother Elwin Grout, half-sister Charlene Ninemire Colerick, and Uncle Paul and Aunt Rose Ausman. Special thanks to First Responders and Paramedics, St. Alphonsus ER team and CICU staff, Keystone Hospice, and the Military Coordinators.

There will be a rosary on August 12, 2024, at 6:00 pm at St. Marks Catholic Church. The funeral will be August 13, 2024, at 10:00 at St. Marks Catholic Church. There will be a viewing in the Resurrection Room one hour prior to the funeral. A reception will follow the funeral with the burial at Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:00. Donations can be made to Meals on Wheels in lieu of flowers.
