Ruby Lorene Boyd passed peacefully on September 29, 2022 to be with the Lord Jesus at the age of 97. She will be greatly missed by her family and those close to her.
Lorene, the daughter of Ruby and Art Nixon, was born on August 11, 1925, in Tahoka, Texas. Lorene’s mom always said she was born on the 10th, and that the doctor failed to record her birth until the 11th. Therefore, Lorene has always said her birthday was on the 10th.
At a young age her family moved from Texas to a farm outside of Vale, Oregon where she grew up with her brothers and younger sister. Lorene attended school in Vale, Oregon and that’s where she met Bill Boyd, her future husband. After graduation, Lorene and Bill were married on August 27, 1943, and began a 63 year life together until his passing in 2006. During those years Lorene worked hard alongside her husband to maintain and grow their dairy farming operation while raising 2 boys. Lorene knew the value of hard work and ethics and she instilled that into her family.
After those years of hard work, they sold the dairy farm in 1965 and moved to a small acreage in West Boise, and then a few years later built a new home in Meridian.
Being a hard worker, and always enjoying cooking for larger groups, Lorene engaged in a second career with the Meridian School District to manage the lunch program for a school near where they lived. She enjoyed the work and her accomplishments until she and Bill both retired in 1986.
After retirement, Lorene and Bill enjoyed several years of traveling with their RV and spending winters in Arizona enjoying the warmer climate. Her summers were spent assisting her husband in maintaining the yard and a beautiful vegetable and fruit garden.
After losing her husband in January 2006, and now being alone, in 2008 Lorene decided to move into an independent living community where she could be around people and activities. Lorene first moved into Bonaventure, then later in 2010 relocated to Grace Assisted Living where she enjoyed the next 12 years until her passing.
Lorene is preceded in death by her parents, husband (Bill), brother (Bryan), and a daughter-in-law (Louann). She is survived by 2 Brothers (Doyle and Dale), 1 Sister (Dottie), 2 sons (Jim (Amiletta) and Lynn), 4 Grandchildren (Anisa, Renee, Kate, and Russell), 11 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
A special “Thank You” to all the special care givers at Grace Assisted Living and All-Care Hospice.
