Our family Matriarch, Lorraine C. Bothne, age 102, a
57 year resident of Boise and previously a fifteen year resident of Twin Falls,
died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 in Eagle, Idaho.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, September 4, at Dry Creek Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral
Chapel.
Lorraine C. Murphy was born on July 29, 1910 in
Elmwood, Wisconsin, the first of five children born to Cora Traynor Murphy and
A.J. Murphy. She married O.J. Bothne in
Menomonie, Wisconsin on September 29, 1934.
Their first two daughters, Beverly and Judie, were born there. They moved to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1940 and
later added Mary to their family. While
living in Twin Falls, she was active in the Catholic Women’s League and many
projects for St. Edwards Catholic Church and school.
The family relocated to Boise in 1955 when O.J. was
appointed by President Eisenhower to the position of Director of the Savings
Bond Program for Idaho. Lorraine was
active for 33 years in the St. Alphonsus Hospital Auxiliary serving as its
President in 1975-1976. She introduced
the concept of Marathon Bridge as a fund raiser in the city of Boise and helped
many other organizations initiate that program.
She was also very active in St. Mary’s Parish and St. Mary’s school as a
volunteer.
First and foremost, Lorraine was an outstanding and
dedicated wife and mother. Family and
family gatherings were always her special joy.
Every grandchild and great grandchild who came along found her to be
thrilled by their arrival. For years,
she and her three daughters gathered for lunch and bridge on each of their
birthdays for wonderful laughter and fun.
Her large family is grateful for her very existence,
her legacy of love and the long life she lived and shared so joyfully. Of course, we are not and cannot be truly
prepared to lose her daily presence in our lives.
Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Mary (Carlos)
Grant, grandchildren: Stephanie (John) Hostetter, Robert (Kathi) Hancock, Mali
McReynolds, Bill (Amy) McReynolds, Jr., Jennifer (Alvin) Poole, all of Boise,
LoriAnne Hancock, Hot Springs, MT, Jill (Scott) Stewart, Sierra Vista, AZ; and
12 great grandchildren. Lorraine was
preceded in death by her husband, O.J. Bothne (1990), daughters, Judie B.
McReynolds (2005), Beverly Hancock (2006), son-in-law, Ken Hancock (1998), and
an infant son, William. She was also preceded in death by her four younger siblings.
