Louis W. Chase, 88, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his winter home in Vero Beach, Florida, on January 9, 2014.

Lou was born in Bristol, Connecticut, on November 4, 1925, son of Lester and Helen B. Chase, and brother of Pauline DeGray, Marie Crockett, and Dottie Spears.

He served in the United States Navy, and then enlisted in the United States Army where he served for twenty years, retiring in 1968.

He married Lucille Briggs while in the Navy. They had two children, a son Randall, and a daughter Donna.

In 1960, Lou married Val (Dougal) Van Cleave and as a devoted father helped raise her three children, Debra, Wayne, and Rod . Together they had a baby daughter Michelle. They moved the family (five children) to Germany for several years where he served in active duty. After returning to the United States he was given duty station at Presidio, California. When he retired from the military, he moved the family back to Idaho where he took a position with First Security Bank as a loan officer. He later purchased and operated a mobile home park, the Golf and Recreation Club, and the Attorney Messenger Service. Lou managed to keep remarkably busy with various projects and ventures throughout his lifetime .

Although Lou and Val divorced in the late eighties and each remarried, they remained good friends.

Lou met and married Nita Hunter in Florida . They wintered there and summered in Idaho during their many happy years together. Nita was a joy to Lou's family, all of whom loved her dearly and grieved her passing .

Lou and Faye Smith were married in 2012. Faye loved and cared for h i m in Florida during his most recent illness, for which his family is eternally grateful. Knowing he was cared for by one he loved and who loved him comforted his family and provided them with much peace of mind .

Lou was preceded in death by his son Randall, his wife Nita, his sisters Paula and Dottie, and by his parents Lester and Helen .

He is survived by his devoted wife Faye Chase, daughters Michelle (Chase) Traenkner, Donna (Chase) Placzek (John), and Debra (Van Cleave) Johnston (Randy); by his sons Wayne Van Cleave (Judy), and Rodney Van Cleave; by his grandsons Emil “Chase” Traenkner, Suyoshi Chase, Scott Van Cleave, Chad Johnston (Stephanie), and Jordan Van Cleave (Ashley); by his granddaughters Valerie Marino (Cory), Natalie Allen (Ryan), Sheila Single, Dee Ann Single, Hayley Van Cleave, and Summer Van Cleave (Aaron Folwell); by his great-granddaughters Ashly Single, Kylie Van Cleave, Avery Allen, and Bailey Folwell; by his great-grandsons Paul Single, Jeremy Traenkner, Takoda Van Cleave, and Ivan Folwell - and by his best friend Ray Sorensen.

Lou was a member of both King Baptist Church in Vero Beach, Florida, and of Anchor Baptist Church in Kuna, Idaho. He served as an alternate t r ustee for Idaho Baptist College and was a member of their Board of D i rectors. Lou was a devout Christian who wanted always to share his love of Ch r ist with all those he met.

Viewing will be held at Alden –Waggoner Funeral Chapel, from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Burial services with military honors will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.
