Loyce Ann Young Mixon Frazier

God called Loyce Mixon Frazier, a true southern belle, to heaven on January 21. She went peacefully in her sleep in the house she dearly loved.

Loyce was born on 8/31/1918 in Grant, LA to Gay Otis and Hulda Mattie Young. She was the 7th of 12 children. They were rambunctious and hard working, but she excelled at artistic endeavors and found time to pursue art and drama. She was married to Rev. Randle Richard Mixon, Sr. in Dec. 1937; starting an adventure with him in Dry Creek, LA that will end with him at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise. Over the years she and Randle moved from congregation to congregation –starting out in Kansas, moving to Chula Vista, CA, and finally settling in Boise at First Baptist. They had four children – Joan Elizabeth (married to Douglas Floyd Sage), Randle Richard (Rick) Mixon, Jr., Charles Lynwood Mixon, and Charlotte Ann Mixon Lanier. Loyce was proud of her children and helped them and her grandchildren out as much as she could.

Loyce was known for her work as an American Baptist. Loyce supported her husband and was a consummate preacher’s wife. She had many friends who admired her artistic nature, culinary skills, and home entertaining. She was famous for her Apple Pecan pie, which she would be certain to tell you she had invented. Loyce was known as a beauty and was proud of how she presented herself. She tailored her clothes, held luncheons and dinners, and kept her house immaculate. She served as the President of the American Baptist Minister’s Wives, was active in American Baptist Missions work, and continued as a member of American Baptist Women’s Missions, and Church Women United. Loyce was proud of being a member of the Ada County Medical Wives Book Club for many years.

After Randle died in 1964, Loyce had to learn to be on her own. She finished up a degree at Linfield College in McMinnville, OR. She then moved back to Boise and received a Certificate in Early Childhood Education and bought her first home.

She was introduced to Dr. Robert Mahard Frazier and after a whirlwind courtship married him in Sept. 73. They traveled internationally, took trail rides, and designed and built a beautiful house overlooking the Boise Valley. She became stepmother to Robert (Bobby) and Elsie Rea (both deceased). Bob’s nephew, John Frazier, also became a big part of their lives.

Loyce was blessed with a granddaughter, Cathleen Marie Sage, and two grandsons, James Jackson and Max Randle Barsness. She also had three great-grandsons, Kyle Lindsay, Shawn Quinn Tikala and Braden Jamis Gerlach. She is also survived by a sister, Cathey Pecorino, of Austin, TX.

Both her husbands, Dr. Randle R. Mixon, Sr. and Dr. Robert M. Frazier, preceded Loyce in death. She also lost her son, Charles Mixon and daughter, Joan Sage, and grandson, Jack Barsness.
Loyce will be remembered as an indomitable spirit who loved Jesus and strived to follow in Christ’s footsteps. She may have fallen short at times but she was dedicated to serve with love and determination.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 27 at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. There will be a viewing for one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be at Dry Creek Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made for The Allumbaugh House, in care of Terry Reilly Health Services located at 400 Allumbaugh St., Boise, ID 83709.
