September 9, 1928 — February 27, 2024

Boise

Lucy Stephania Young passed peacefully to the arms of her heavenly father at 11:47 a.m. on February 27th 2024, with her loving son Dennis by her side. She was 95 years old, born in Boise, Idaho on September 9th 1928. She was the second daughter of James Arthur and Ethel Ferguson (Wilde) Etchison. She was preceded in death by her loving Husband Grant, Mother and Father, two brothers (James Arthur and Larry Alan), two sisters (Mildred Jean Williams and Donna Lou Goiri) and daugther-in-law Darlene Young.
Her adventurous teen years took her halfway across the country with her older sister Millie, to Dayton, Ohio. She met Grant Young while she was waiting tables at the Sugar Bowl Café in Dayton. Grant, a returned WWII veteran, was working for Frigidaire at the time. They fell in love and were married in Covington, Kentucky in May 1947. They later moved to Boise to raise their family where she continued to work as a waitress while Grant attended barber school.
She worked at The Mission Inn Restaurant, The Torch Café and the Stagecoach Inn as a waitress until 1960 when she left to attend Hollywood Beauty College and became a cosmetologist. She maintained a beauty shop in her home while raising two rambunctious boys who appreciated her always being there when they got home. Lucy tirelessly cared for Grant when he was ill with cancer and his brother George who had emphysema, tending to their every need until they both passed in 1999. Grant and Lucy were married for 52 years. Her 54-year cosmetology career ended in 2014 due to a stroke.
She was a wonderful woman, beautiful wife, devout mother, sister, aunt, great grandmother and great great grandmother and friend. She was an active member of the Community Christian Center for many years and later The Vineyard Church both of Garden City. She was a member of the DAV, American Legion and VFW auxiliaries and fully supported our veterans.
She and Grant loved to dance and were members of Boise’s Knots and Squares Dance Group, dancing most every weekend.
She had two sons, Jerry Grant (Bonnie) and Dennis Alan (Trudy), who were the joy of her life. She has six grandchildren, Wendy Schoessler, Jaymee Norman, Loree Ramos, Taylor Young, Travis Young and Austin Young. Twelve great grandchildren, Noel, Mason and Eden Young, Jake Schoessler, Shallen Viloria, Ashley Koplin, Jack, Owen and Kellen Schoessler, Grant, Cora and Vivian Young, and one great great grandchild Makoa Viloria, all whom she adored. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her, especially her family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 8th, from 4-8p.m. at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 9th, at 9:30 a.m. at Dry Creek Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 a.m. at Pierce Park Baptist Church, 5350 N. Pierce Park Ln.
