Luella Mae Janson, 98, passed away peacefully in her home at Grace Assisted Living on Saturday morning, October 22, 2016. Luella was born on March 3, 1918, in Meridian, Idaho. She was one of four siblings born to Albert and June Neal. Luella leaves behind an incredible legacy that inspired everyone she came in contact with.
Luella grew up in Meridian, Idaho where she and her family were active in the Local Grange. As a young woman, she helped care for her aging grandfather. She also took a position with Meridian Creamery where she made many, many lifelong friends. She went to business school and became Meridian’s City Treasure and served until marrying Floyd Janson in 1948.
Luella met the love her life, Floyd Walton Janson, at a local skating rink and the two were married in 1948 and moved to Boise where they raised three boys; Don, Ron and John. With incredible grace, Luella balanced her roles of wife, homemaker, mother and neighbor while working part or full-time at the Meridian Creamery and later at Overland Lumber. She was an active member of the Red Rock Christian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, camp counselor and deaconess. Luella and Floyd retired to Emmett Idaho in 1979 where they lived for the next 30 years. In Emmett, Luella was active in the Emmett Christian church and served on the local election board.
Luella and Floyd had a love for the Idaho wilderness. They spent nearly every weekend of the summer at Silver Creek Campground (camping, fishing, and wood cutting) with an occasional trip to Stanley Lake, Brownlee reservoir or Lake Cascade. They also loved playing cards with friends and made sure each and every member of their family shared in this pleasure. Luella was an avid reader and beautiful gardener. She was also an amazing cook and loved preparing the table for family get-togethers.
In 2007, Floyd and Luella returned to Meridian, Idaho to live closer to family. Two years later, following the death of Floyd, Luella moved into Grace Assisted Living where she lived until passing. During Luella’s five years at Grace, she enthusiastically participated in all planned events while making deep and meaningful relationships with staff, residents and visitors. Luella remained active in the lives of her children and grandchildren and found immense joy in the addition of each new great-grandchild. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express our genuine appreciation to those in Emmett and Meridian who supported Luella while she cared for her beloved Floyd. We would also like to express our deep gratitude to the staff, both past and present, at Grace Assisted Living that loved and cared for her with such compassion throughout the years.
Luella is survived by her sons, Don of Longmont, Co; Ron and daughter-in-law Kathy of Twin Falls, Idaho; John and daughter-in-law Susan of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren Kate, Cory, Scott, Jason, Amber and Jill; great-grandchildren Hailee, Coltin, Jayden, Wyatt, Max, Sam, Noah and Mercy.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, the 26th of October at Red Rock Christian Church, 1124 South Roosevelt, Boise, Idaho.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Boise.
