Lyle R. Cobbs, age 82, passed away peacefully on August 10,
2012 at Capital Care Center in Boise, Idaho. Lyle was born July 22, 1930 in Boise,
Idaho to Hartzell Cobbs and Edith (Miller). He was preceded in death by his
father and mother, brother, Hartzell
Cobbs (Lavancy), sister, Maxine Hughes (Verne), sister, Marlys Lancaster (Kenneth),
and nephew, Terry Lancaster. Lyle
graduated from Nampa High School in 1948 and then attended Northwest Christian
College for two years in Eugene, Oregon.
Lyle accepted Jesus Christ at age 14 as his Lord and Savior
and was a faithful, lifelong and active
member of University Christian Church serving numerous positions including the eldership
and church board chairman.
Lyle joined the Army Infantry in 1951 serving on the front
lines in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. He married Donna L White on April 9
th
,
1954, and they had four daughters.
Lyle has spent many years serving his country and the public sector with
6 years as a state representative and 8 years as a state senator. As a legislator, Lyle helped establish a
retirement system for Idaho teachers and sponsored legislation making of Boise
State a four year University.
Lyle spent 57 years
owning his own business, Idaho Properties, and then Cobbs Investments, during
which time he was president of the Boise board of Realtors and was named as
Boise realtor of the year. Lyle also
served as president of the Boise Kiwanis Club in 1966, and served on the Idaho
State Board of tax appeals as a tax judge.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Donna, of
58 years, daughter s, Nancy Miller (Greg) of Eagle, Diane Amen of Boise,
Kathryn Boling (Ben) Of Springfield MO., and Lyla Croft (Lee) of Boise, eleven grandchildren, five “great grandchildren” and several nieces and nephews. Lyle, Donna
and family enjoyed many days together at their home on Mt View Circle, their cabin
in McCall and at their ocean condo in Depot Bay, Oregon.
The family would like
to thank the staff of Capital Care Center and Four Rivers Hospice for their
quality care of Lyle. The family
suggests that memorials be made to the building fund of University Christian
Church..
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday,
August 15, 2012 at University Christian Church, 1801 University Dr. Boise, ID,
with Pastors Jim Kirby and Ken Stamper officiating. Committal services with military honors will
be held at 2:00 PM at the Idaho States Veterans Cemetery.
