Lynn (Carolyn) Mills, 87, of Boise, died
on May 27, 2012.
Lynn was born June 24, 1924 in Flagstaff,
Arizona, to Marvell VanDorn Cook and (William) Orville Cook.
She graduated with honors from Cheyenne
Senior High School, Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 1942 and was a member of National
Thespians Dramatic Honor Society, 1942, National Forensic League, 1941, and
Leadership with Snowy Range Young Peoples Institute, 1941.
Lynn attended the Lamont School of Music,
University of Denver. She was a Colaratura Soprano and enjoyed a budding music
career. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Beta Sigma Phi, Theta Alpha Phi
and was a prominent model for Denver Photography Studio.
April 28, 1946, Lynn married the love of
her life, Herman (Herb) Mills at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Cheyenne,
Wyoming. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and was very active in the
Eastern Star in Cheyenne, and a member of Mystic Star Chapter, Boise.
Lynn was active in Girl Scouts throughout
her life and as a young girl was awarded the Silver Star by Mrs. Herbert
Hoover, National Girl Scout President, in Casper, Wyoming on May 29, 1937. She
was a Girl Scout Leader for the Gem Area and Silver Sage Girl Scout Council
Troop 42, and served as “Shorty” a Camp Counselor at Camp Tamanawis. Lynn also
served as a Cub Scout Leader and Den Mother of Troop 4.
A favorite ‘Band Mom’ for the Borah High
School Band she spent many hours altering uniforms and transporting music kids
to special rehearsal and performances 1967 – 1969. Lynn was a talented artist of both landscape
oil painting and fiber arts. Her favorite past time was her love of the
out-of-doors, especially with family and friends at the beloved family cabin in
Lowman, Idaho.
Lynn is survived by her son, Bob Mills and
his wife Debbie of Boise; grandchildren, Jeremy Flowers, Ryan Flowers, Kristin
(Rick) Hicks, and Steve King; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tori, Chloe, Gabe,
and ZZ; and by her daughter, Debby Mills-Peckham and her husband Ken, of Hines,
Oregon; granddaughter, Mary Shriver and her husband Matt; and
great-grandchildren, Brendan and Addison of Boise.
The family would like to thank the Heritage Assisted Living
for all the compassion and care you gave our Mom, and to thank the Kindred
Transitional Care and Rehabilitation for all your hard work with our Mom’s
rehabilitation’s.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
Silver Sage Girl Scout Council, or to a charity of your choice.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00
a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Cloverdale Cemetery, under the direction of
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
