Margaret Ellen Henry went to be with our Lord, Thursday,
March 13, 2014.
She had been bravely battling
a form of Parkinson’s disease at the time of her death.
Margaret was born Feb. 15, 1934 in Los Angeles, California
to James Earl and Carrie Ina McConnell.
She was raised in a small country town, at the
time, Baldwin Park, CA, surrounded by animals, friends and family.
Margaret graduated from Covina High School where
she met and fell in love with “her only boyfriend”.
On Feb 5
th
, 1954 she married
Donald Henry and spent the next few years living in California, Colorado,
Texas, Arizona and finally Boise, Idaho.
Don worked for Morrison-Knudsen and Margaret was able to accompany him on
all the construction projects he was assigned.
Margaret was an avid equestrian, outdoorswoman, water skier,
gardener, artist, animal enthusiast, donor to many charitable organizations, and
was named the Beta Kappa 1981 Girl of the Year, but above all she was a loving wife
and mother.
She volunteered as a
veterinary assistant at the clinic in Page, AZ and donated her time for many
years at the Idaho Humane Society.
She
was named Volunteer of the Year for the Idaho Humane Society in 1995.
One of her hobbies was adopting animals who
would otherwise have been euthanized, typified by Skipper, a one eyed dog with
a limp.
Margaret spent many hours on
horseback with her friend, Joanie Wright and the 10 Mile Riding Club.
She loved all her animals but especially her
horses, Goldie and Sandy, and would spend every minute possible riding or
caring for them.
Her gardening skills
were amazing and she could grow the most stubborn of plants. She had incredible
gardens and yards.
Margaret enjoyed camping, fishing and playing cribbage with
her husband and son.
She had a trailer
spot beside the Payette River outside of Cascade, Idaho where she would spend
weekends after Don’s death.
She was at
home in the outdoors and could make the best Mickey Mouse pancakes ever.
Margaret loved the peace of the outdoors so much she designed, and had a cabin built
outside of Garden Valley where she spent many weekends sharing the beauty of
the outdoors with her friends.
Margaret
was heavily involved at her church, Collister Community Church, and volunteered
in the kitchen.
One of her favorite activities was playing her
piano and singing with her friends in the musical group, The Silver Belles, at
assisted living homes.
She is survived by her son, David Henry and his wife,
Kasandra, her brother, Kenneth McConnell and his wife, Gaylyn, her twin
granddaughters, Jamie and Olivia Henry, her sister-in-law, Marilynn Batelaan
and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her husband, Donald Henry, her father, James Earl
McConnell and her mother, Carrie Ina (Head) McConnell.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 20
th
,
2014, at 11 a.m., at the Collister Community Church, 4709
West State Street, Boise, followed by a procession to Dry Creek Cemetery where
she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
All friends and family are welcome.
Her family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Ronald
McDonald House, Idaho Humane Society or St. Luke’s Hospital.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers who served
Margaret in the last 4 years.
Without
you Mom would not have had the quality of life she did.
