Martha A. Smith, 95, of Meridian, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 in a Meridian assisted living center.

Martha A. Smith was born to John and Deborah Asher on May 1, 1916 in Friley, Arkansas. She moved with her family to Oklahoma at the age of two where she grew up and received her education. She moved to Idaho in 1935 where she has lived since, with the exception of two years spent in California. On July 19, 1947 she married Harley F. Smith in Willits, California. Together they lived in Boise and Kuna before moving to Meridian in 1961 and she resided there until death.

Joined to the union of Harley and Martha was three sons, Donald J. Smith, Ronald E. Smith and Stewart M. Smith.

Martha accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She loved her church, her Christian friends and her family.

Martha and Harley were charter members of Meridian First Baptist.

Martha is survived by her sons, Don (Jan) Smith and Stewart Smith; her grandson, Michael (Kelly) Smith; her granddaughter, Chelsa Smith; and one great-grandson, Harley Michael Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley her son, Ronald E. Smith, her sisters, brothers and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2011 at Meridian First Baptist Church with Pastor Virgil Saltz officiating. Burial will follow in Kuna Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to the service. Services are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Meridian First Baptist Church, 428 W. Pine Ave., Meridian, ID, 83642, for a kitchen remodel fund.
