Marvin
Richard Kearns, age 84, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014. He was the youngest of four children born to Gilbert William and Florence
Cecelia (Breshears) Kearns on March 6, 1930 in Boise, ID, although he lived and
grew up with his family in Eagle, ID.
Marvin
graduated from Eagle High school in 1948 whereby he entered the Army and became
a part of the 4
th
Infantry Division, 72
nd
Tank Battalion
at Fort Lewis on 07/07/1948. After
leaving the Army Marvin worked several different jobs until finally settling
down at the Idaho Transportation Department’s District 3 office where he worked
for 28 years until his retirement in May of 1987.
Marvin
met his bride JoAnn Osler during high school, and they were married on November
29, 1950 at the First Christian Church in Boise. During their 58 years together, they had
three sons, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter whom Marvin loved
and cared about very much. Marvin took a
special interest in the lives of his grandchildren. He never missed a ball game, school event or
special occasion in their lives.
Marvin enjoyed gardening and loved to share
the bounty with friends and family. He
was a man of many trades. He built their
first house and added two rooms and three shops to their home in Boise. He liked
to work with wood and built everything from furniture, bird houses to bowls for
mom's salads. He also enjoyed cars, whether it be racing them at Meridian
Speedway or restoring them as he did with a 1928 and 1929 Model A Fords. He was even one of the original founders of
the ‘Old Timer’s Car Club’. In his later
years, Marvin took up bowling where he participated on several singles and
doubles bowling leagues.
Marvin
was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years JoAnn, his parents, sister Violet
Hiner, brothers Delbert and Elmer Kearns.
Marvin
is survived by his three sons Rick Kearns (Stephanie), Craig Kearns (Jody), and
Tony Kearns (Amy) all of Boise, ID. He
is also survived by his granddaughter Holly Hunsaker (David) of Boise, ID; grandson
Joe Kearns (Bonnie) of Santa Barbara, CA; grandson Michael Kearns (Jennifer) of
Destin, FL; granddaughter Diane Kearns of Boise, ID; and great-granddaughter
Madison Kearns of Destin, FL.
Graveside
services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at Dry Creek
Cemetery. A viewing will be held the
evening prior on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Alden
Waggoner Funeral Home located at 5400 Fairview Ave, in Boise, ID.
